That's why people like Biden send them off to war - they see the military as expendable. Hal Moore addressed the issue of failed diplomacy and the military very aptly in We Are Soldiers Still: A Journey Back to the Battlefields of Vietnam. Probably the one Biden decision to date that I do see as correct is a retired general as Secretary of Defense (I don't know anything about the particular general, though). It's about time that the military had real input at the cabinet level to balance the clowns in the State Dept - real input about costs and what the military can do vs the State Dept view - real input about the value of the military and lives vs the State Departments inability to solve issues by diplomacy. Sometimes diplomacy actually won't work, but other times our amateur diplomats are simply not good enough.
Call me suspicious of any retired General or Admiral picked by a Democratic President.
