National title game thread

sorry bpv, but the better team is the team with the most points at the end of the ballgame. Tonight that team is Kansas.
you know as well as I that this statement is absolutley wrong. For instance, the Ny Giants are defending SB champs and there are about 5 better AFC teams and a couple NFC.

all that matters is the scoreboard. The Giants clearly out played the "class of the NFL" Patriots in the Super Bowl and Kansas outplayed Memphis when it mattered.

But, I want to admit with your philosophy that Tennessee was not the best team in 1998

Don't like Cal. But to be honest I feel sorry for CDR...he seems like a stand up guy. Oh well, enjoy your millions.

See: Darius Washington Jr.

Karma hates Memphis...and I find it a little funny though I do feel bad for their sadness.

eh, vol fans that never had to cheer for basketball before. One Shining Moment has quite a tradition.

That's why it's good to win games on the scoreboard and be objectively better than to look good in the uniform and win subjective arguments among people on a message board.

as does officiating, but you're not talking about it.
So, should Dorsey have been T-ed up once or twice? Also, I liked the blatant two handed shove on Collins at the end of overtime.

Feel free to gripe about the officiating. We here in Kansas will have fun with our new TROPHY!!!

I know the better team won. Evidently you have not forgotten about the scoreboard, but just don't comprehend the meaning of it?
wonder why teams pay coaches, since the better one always wins.

Davidson came from 17 down to beat G'town too, but are in no way the better team.

Who gets the trophy in the end, the better team or the team that won the game that night? Teams have off nights but if they lose, they still get one added to the L column... there is no asterisk that says didn't play good or wasn't the better team.

You prefer a method where 3 judges vote on the winner? Or some other method that includes style points. Your argument is going nowhere tonight.

You don't play to be the "better team," you play to win the game. And championships. The better team loses all the time, in every sport. The whole point of being the better team is so that you win those games. Whether Memphis is "better" in some Platonic, theoretical sense is irrelevant. If you can't win the game on the floor, it doesn't matter.

Memphis was the better team against UT as well. Just have a hard time with that scoreboard thing.

Memphis was the better team for the first 38 minutes. Too bad regulation time is 40!!!

outplayed, if it means a late game ft shooting affair, is correct. I'm with Vitale on the need to change the way finishes work. 1 ft and the ball would help.

Tn probably wasn't the best team in 1998.

I'm not arguing that KU shouldn't be the champion. I'm saying they were not the best of those 2 teams and I hate to see late game FT garbage decide outcomes. I think it needs to change for the good of the game.

Memphis was 38-2. They were doing something right. They also had the game won there at the end. We were 3 minutes away from not having any of this discussion. Don't forget that. I'm not a big Memphis fan/supporter, I'm just saying.
