'25 NC OT David Sanders (Tennessee commit)

From the Ohio St on3

Sanders is currently a Tennessee commit, having pledged to the Volunteers over the Buckeyes back in August, and seemingly locked in with the Checkered Orange since then. So why the visit to Columbus this weekend?

With Sanders and his parents still on their trip to Ohio State, I don’t have a for sure/definitive answer, but in talking to multiple sources with knowledge of the trip, this is absolutely a business trip and not “just a visit to see a big game“. I’m not sure if anything changed on the OSU side re: upping a NIL package or anything of the sort, but as one source put things, “I think as we get closer to this being for real with the Early Signing Period, there were some second thoughts about Tennessee being the best fit for him. He’s always loved Ohio State and the academic program (medical field), as well as his fit in the culture there. I think he wanted to get back and make sure he makes the right decision on December 4.”

There is still more digging to do about this recruitment once the visit is over, but when it comes to that upcoming final decision, the initial word I’m getting is that there is a strong chance of Ohio State pulling off the flip. “Really high chance this happens,” once source put it. “Want to see what happens after he returns home from this visit, but there is a real shot of a flip,” said another source. “David and his family are really enjoying themselves and feeling very much at home. I think deep down he knows maybe this is where he’s always belonged.”
Lol this is just bogus drivel, who is this “source”? And why not just name them, oh yeah that doesn’t provide clicks. If he flips so be it business is business…

I’d this is true then Sanders and his family is as clean as recently mentioned. If you are gonna be open and visit other programs then be upfront about it and let every side know where you stand. Super shady way of doing business.
According to VQ, this was not a surprise.

Really really odd for a kid that’s been so locked in for so long to suddenly look so hard at another place. A place he had already passed up for us. This just seems like something went down or someone really dropped the ball.
He read where a bunch of you morans were calling him Davis.

Sounds like he’s gone to me. Losing him and the other 5 star OL to Oregon is awful. It’s been said numerous times that elarbee is a terrible recruiter and the results on the recruiting trail at his position are supporting that.

VOL til HE says he is not. Not worried. If he doesnt want to make millions being a starting tackle at UT then plenty do...
Marcus, he's the only OT in this class. I'm not so sure "plenty do". And I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with Elarbee since by most accounts our NIL is very comparable to other programs.

would i be surprised if he went to ohio state? no. when you are trying to swim in the waters with these top teams trying to get top talent, this is going to happen. LSU can sing you a sad song about losing what you thought you had. Simple truth is with NIL, you are going to be on the good end of some of these situations, and you are going to be on the bad end. It does not help one bit that a season that was supposed to be an offensive juggernaut was middle of the pack at best. i could really see where a prospect, at the very least, would stop and take a second look at the situation here and just ask theirself if there is a legit reason this offense looks sluggish more often than not. last year the excuse was joe milton, i am not sure what it is this year with an offense that looks no better with nico

Lol at trying to make HS OL recruiting a referendum on a coach when the transfer portal literally exists.

Frankly I’d be ok doing *all* OL recruiting through the portal.

It takes 2-3 years in college for most guys to be SEC ready anyway, why waste scholarship spots on guys who can’t contribute when you can just raid other rosters for guys who are ready to step in and play right away?
I get what you are saying but ask Florida St how going full on mercenaries turns out. You can add a piece or two..... But you can't build your line with mercenaries. Is a bad idea.

Matt Ray just said earlier it’s nothing that TN has done wrong. It’s not about Elarbee. He said it came down to his family.

Look at the top teams. None of them build their OLs through the portal. That’s not how it works. Living off the portal on the OL is not sustainable.

I don't think that completely absolves Elarbee though......I think Elarbee's weaknesses as a coach/recruiter could be a reason so many high profile recruits have made business decisions to go elsewhere.

I'll give him credit, he's gotten in their ears...... But hasn't closed. And if he were developing his recruits it would be a moot point. But the guys he's brought in haven't developed into SEC caliber starters. And pass pro, among other things have held this offense back.

Sooner or later the bill comes due, and we will yet again be looking in the portal for answers to likely at least few positions on the o line in year 4.... That's not a good look.

We'll have to look at the portal for OL if for no other reason than depth. Let's say all of our starting OL are already on the team. I don't think they are, but let's pretend. We'll still need at least a couple of more just for depth purposes, in case of injury.

OL is just looking more and more like a weakness. It's held us back at times this year with its inconsistency, and next year, Nico Year 2, it's looking even scarier. At some point you have to look at Elarbee and wonder how much is coaching? How long can he ride on the success of Darnell Wright?
