CJH can definitely get a couple of good shots open a game, but he also struggles with putting together consistent drives that move the chains methodically (unless its a team we can dominate at the LOS).Play calling has been solid this year. Guys running wide open downfield all season. Maybe not in this game (no idea bc I’ve only seen the broadcast version and can’t see downfield).

Early season that’s a viable excuse, but at this point if on your deep shots your QB is regularly missing and your WRs are regularly dropping them when not missed, you can’t run an offense dependent on them. You have to scheme and call plays to what your players are doing well
You can’t run any offense when guys are not executing like catching a football when it hits their hands…no amount of scheme can fix players not executingCJH can definitely get a couple of good shots open a game, but he also struggles with putting together consistent drives that move the chains methodically (unless its a team we can dominate at the LOS).

I’m talking specifically about the dropped/missed deep shots. There’s also a huge chunk of the intermediate pass game that we rarely take advantage of. Slants, drags, deep crossing routes, pre snap motion, etc that all can force the defense out of position. Shortening the passing game is not equivalent to switching to the triple option, that’s a little hyperbolic.Which would be rushing the football. On the season we have 288 pass attempts vs 459 rushing attempts.
If WRs drop balls or the QB overthrows, you’re not gonna be able to run any offense effectively. We’re not switching to the triple option.
For the vast majority of the year, Nico has thrown balls that are very catchable and the WRs have dropped them. Yes he has made bad throws. But way more often than not, it’s then dropping passes they shouldn’t. Jayson Swain and Jonathan Crompton have alluded to this all year.Certain passes are also easier to throw and catch than others
You say the same thing about Hyatt? He didn't break out until his senior year so....
You mean his junior year.
But there’s a difference: Hyatt got on the field his first 2 years. His freshman year, he caught a long TD against Alabama. His sophomore year, Heupel tried to get him in the starting rotation, but he had the dropsies. He played some though. Had a long catch against Kentucky in that wild game in Lexington. Then he broke out as a junior.
Leacock has done nothing. Hasn’t gotten in the field in 2 years. Not as a starter, not as next man up. His first 2 years are nothing like Hyatt’s.
That said, I hope he stays and develops. We need WRs. But it’s fair to speculate that he might leave.
Definitely not a project, seeing as he put up 1700 receiving yards his senior year. Was also a top 70 player. He was a developmental project. An Athlete with speed that needed to learn football skills.
Not surprised it hasn’t worked out. Current staff seems to come up short in the development process
