'21 NC RB Jaylen Wright (Tennessee signee)

And I failed to add K Harris and T Baron although Baron is right now a hybrid 3-4 olb or 4-3 DE. I dont see where he hasnt recruited well on DL.

He’s brought in three JUCO dline and none are draft picks at this point. Like Pruitt a lot but he’s not above criticism. His dline recruiting hasn’t been good enough so far. I think he knows that and that’s why rocker isn’t here anymore
One partial class and one full season effort. Coached up what he inherited and now two (Tuttle and Phillips) are more than contributing on rosters. Didn’t have any DL leave after this past season so we’ll have to judge an Edge who had his most impact under this failed new non-Muschamp type having HC.

Well add J Kongbo to that list of K Phillips and Tuttle who he coached up. And what a transformation by J Blakely or L Bumphus. From TE/LB types to possible starters on a liaded Def front. Not bad.

He’s gotta sell something that’s hard to buy for highly rated recruits who need to see what they’re signing up for. Acting like he needs somebody to tell him the importantance of DL is beyond goofy. Bet the topic came up in Tuscaloosa, Tallahassee and Athens during his coordinating stays.

I’m not sure that those guys becoming draft picks is necessarily his fault. Rocker was not only a lazy recruiter, his developmental coaching skills weren’t quite on par with the rest of the staff. That’s another reason they let him slip right on out. To the comment of his d line recruiting hasn’t been good enough, ask Bama Auburn & others about how badly they wanted Omari Thomas and there was no way he wasn’t gonna play for coach Pruitt. Pruitt knew Hardy was a head case so he wasn’t going to throw the entire toolbox at him but he also wasn’t gonna let totally off the gas. He knew something wasn’t right there. He also believed in who he already had on the d line so he knew he could afford to miss on some top flight d line prospects last class. That’s why you see him in the thick of it with so many in this class.
Sounds like you’re inside CJP’s head?

He was blunt about the improvements that were needed talent wise throughout the roster...but didn’t wait until that arrived to start coaching and improving. I personally get annoyed at some of the back and forth position flips but recognize that he’ll do what he needs to do.

Also 2 of the 3 JUCO DL plus Transfer A Solomon will most certainly be draft picks.
We hope that but as things stand now that’s not true at all. I THINK gooden and Middleton will be drafted but that’s because I’m projecting them to have big senior years. They still have to go out and prove it because so far they aren’t draft picks. Soloman’s injury history could cost him

Rocker is one of the best dline coaches in the country. Terrible recruiter

He has also brought in Emerson E. Simmons K Garland J Mincey and last years signees D Bailey R Perry and O Thomas. He has recruited the DL pretty good. I saw 1 publication say Vols DL might be the best in the country.
All either haven’t played or haven’t shown any consistency

Yes they have. K Garland is one of the best DL on the team. Emerson played very well last season. E Simmons was a true frosh last year probably strongest player on the team. Mincey has come on. Matthew Butler has made huge strides in the last 2 years.

Garland and Emerson are solid but they’re not difference makers. Simmons will likely be good but he needs to prove it. What has Mincey ever done lol? Butler is ok

If that happens, he’d have at least two draft picks out of one class that he had a month to recruit and one full class during a talent rehaul...all before any HS recruit is even eligible for the draft. I think you should go professional with this doomsday act and take it on the road.

Emerson was a beast last year. And also, made the tackle that took out Tua. For a guy who never started a game especially, since Gooden went down before the season. He allowed Middleton and Solomon to do what they do.

Emerson’s first year starting after a devastating injury. Poormouthers like you had already conceded when Gooden went down before the season...Emerson made a DIFFERENCE.

None of the three JUCO Dlinemen that he has recruited have used up all their eligibility yet. We don't know if they will get drafted or not.
I agree that is why Rocker is no longer here, though.

Guys can take up to 2-3 years to develop along the DL in the SEC! I do think that all of our DL need to continue to work hard and get better if we are to be a top notch SEC DL this season. But no one can argue that the DL has made huge strides in 2 years. But yes they all need to take that next step.

That’s all I’m saying. They are good at holding up offensive linemen and letting bituli and toots make plays but they rarely get in the backfield and make plays. We’re hoping they take the next step but they’ve yet to prove it

If Tua Turndaballova would have had his wheelchair that game he would have been straight.....3E282E17-3D51-451B-9AF3-119F9026C2D5.gif

In a 3-4 scheme that is what they are suppose to do is hold their gaps so the LB's can clean it up. Thats why we need to continue to recruit pass rushers and LBs as well. Vols won 7 of their last 8 games primarily because everyone on the def front continued to buy in and improve.

Back to where this first arose, is it your belief that had Muschamp taken over at UT in 2018 that we’d have multiple NFL draft picks at DL and more lined up?

We’d have had at least one and we’d have more difference makers on the line. Less wins though

Forget draft picks. Pruitt did get D Taylor drafted and Tuttle and Phillips are NFL starters. J Kongbo helped win a CFL title and is now with the 49ers. No Muschamp would not have done that. And yes we have difference makers up front on defense
