'19 NC RB Quavaris Crouch (Tennessee signee)

i look at our WR's alot like i've been looking at our CB's the past few years. there's names you recognize, raw talent...not a ton of production.

excited to see what CDJ can do with this group. i do think there's some real potential.

of course, the QB situation last year wasn't great, and it's hard to be efficient in the passing game when your QB is either bailing on the play and using his God given talent (Dobbs' legs) or flat on his back (JG).

really hope CJP wasn't blowing smoke about the O Line improvements..........

I personally expect at least some improvement in the OL this year just from the fact that 1) They are in a much more OL friendly system. Some of the things an offensive lineman was required to do in the old system was borderline insane. and 2) I imagine all of those guys will be at least somewhat bigger and stronger than they were the last few years in a virtually non-existent S&C program.

yeah, #1 specifically gives me the most hope. i totally agree about the last staffs' system, vs. this style of play.

and to be honest, if you get the grad transfer from Bama, you still have another one or two coming this summer, get smith back, and Carvin keep developing, and Richmond lives up to the rating....

crap. all those 'if's'. 'bout time we start getting on the good end of those imo. potential is there. need the production, and health.

I think a common theme with lack of WR production for the last 5 years is that is butch's "specialty" and he was heavily involved. Sure qb play could've affected it, but the flip side could also have some truth. Maybe our qb's passing stats could've looked more impressive with better coached wr's that actually produced to their potential. Of course the OL will help too, just offering some other potential issues that would seem likely to improve under the new staff.

I personally think the whole system was flawed and not at all OL or WR friendly.

yeah, this is where i am. the only thing that bailed Jones out was Dobbs' legs.

if no Dobbs, i bet Jones is fired at least after the 16 season. if not after 15 considering how we lost to OU, Ark and FL.

Yes considering he only won 1 game against a top 25 or SEC opponent without Dobbs that seems accurate. And it was the same game. 2013 I think against USCe when they were top 25. haha

yep. that's the one.

Jennings is the man on 3rd down & big plays because he ain't scared and has outstanding focus.

Callaway is arguably the most well-rounded receiver right now, but his hands are questionable.

I lean more toward Brandon Johnson being our most dependable guy, but he's not a burner. Good route runner and catches the ball when has a chance.

Josh Palmer and Tyler Byrd are tough, but I haven't seen much explosiveness from either of them. Solid options but probably not NFL players.

Murphy is the guy who has the most potential, IMO. Great route runner, elusive, and good hands.

Latrell Williams and Jones are supposed to be decent slot options but I haven't seen anything from either of them that gets me excited.

Basically... we've got a lot of good options but don't have that All-SEC type guy unless it's Murphy.

Murphy's my pick too. Yes, I'm going by mostly highlights and the reports from Rivals media at the Bama-Miss HS all-star game, so whatever, jmo. Call away reminds me of a RB that plays WR, who high points the ball maybe better than anybody I've seen at UT since Pickens. Johnson was our best WR, last year, steady, but not spctacular, yet hopefully. Jennings is just a Dog. I think Jones will contribute, probably more on returns than WR

Palmer is pretty explosive IMO. He can get behind the defense. There were several times he had his man beaten deep downfield but couldn't make the play. His problem last year was catching the ball and adjusting to the ball.

Just gotta coach him up. He clearly has the tools.

Brandon Johnson is one of my favorite current Vols. Underrated guy. Think he’ll do really well for us and hope he makes it to the league.

Agree. Best route runner on the roster, smooth, very good hands....I could see him working out of slot and easily catching 45-50 balls this year.

Ton of respect for your opinions/player evaluations on here. Hope you’re right about Palmer...ain’t gonna lie, I didn’t see much of anything either last season or in the O&W game from Palmer that impressed me. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been wrong for sure, but I just haven’t seen it from that kid. Hope he progresses with the new staff and that he can become a reliable option on the outside. Until further notice though, I got JJ, Callaway and Johnson being the 3 best/most productive WRs this year, by a lot.

I think he got open more than anyone but can't catch the ball at all if I remember it correctly.

Ahhhh so refreshing to see some actual football talk and discussion here up in this thread.

Past few days in the RF thread and the HJ thread not our best days.

How do you know Jordan Murphy is a “great” route runner? He had one catch for 12 yards.

Watch his high school highlights and UT practice clips posted on YouTube. Kid is silky smooth and crisp in his routes and effortlessly changes directions.
