With the start of the early signing period now a little more than five weeks away, Tennessee continues to battle for a number of highly ranked prospects who still could be added to the Vols’ 2019 class.
And they appear to be building momentum with some big-name players, including at least a few five-stars.
Five-star athlete takes another look at Vols
One of Tennessee’s longtime top targets, five-star athlete
Quavaris Crouch of Charlotte, N.C., headlined a relatively small but top-heavy list of prospects who attended the Vols’ game against Kentucky on Saturday. Crouch was Tennessee’s only official visitor over the weekend, and while sources indicated that Clemson and Michigan were the favorites to land him going into the weekend, the Vols impressed him enough to again emerge as legitimate contenders for him.
It was Crouch’s fourth visit to Tennessee this year, and it was an important trip for the Vols, to say the least. Until recently, he wasn’t planning to take an official visit to Knoxville. But first-year coach
Jeremy Pruitt’s staff, led by tight ends coach
Brian Niedermeyerand Pruitt himself, continued to push for Crouch and convinced him to give the Vols another look. The weekend visit reminded him of some of the reasons Tennessee once was perhaps the favorite to land him. Some sources close to his recruitment still believe Clemson might be tough to beat down the stretch, with the Tigers still set to host him on an official visit this weekend. But Tennessee again has given itself a chance.
