Hrm, the two conferences that had their banner programs embarrassed by UK this year now want to eliminate the really talented players from the game entirely. The hate is so strong...

Who said anyone was hating? I don't care if you're Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, Duke, etc. Those kind of teams will always still be able to get quality players due to their rich tradition and success even if they eliminate the One & Done rule. Go back to like the old days and let these kids choose whether to prove themselves in the NBA or go to a college of their choice if offered. I mean do you really think players like Wall, Cousins, Davis, needed to go to college for one year to become better? My point exactly.

They don't exist to help the college game. The NBA exists to make a profit.

Kentucky a Bigger TV Draw Than the NBA – Including LeBron – and It’s Not Close | The Big Lead

UK is making bank off this run as well:

"Basketball fans have taken notice: Kentucky’s game against LSU Tuesday – the Wildcats briefly led by 13 in the second half, but held on to win by one – drew 2.4 million viewers on ESPN according to Sports TV Ratings. And that’s not even the biggest number Kentucky has pulled this season: When Kentucky beat unranked Florida last Saturday, 3.2 million people watched.

A night later, LeBron vs. his former team, Miami, only drew a TV audience of 1.59 million. The ESPN nightcap Wednesday between the Rockets and Clippers – two playoff teams with popular stars in James Harden and Chris Paul – drew 1.4 million viewers."

no, no its not. you apply for draft then you dont play college basket ball so all schools suffer.

90% of young men going to college now wont even smell the NBA.

100% think they will.

You clearly didn't read or understand what I said

I disagree regarding football. Nobody is ready for the NFL right out of high school, yet you'd have some kids who have 5* talent with the awful ego, a family in need of financial assistance, or worse...both.

Basketball is the only major American sport where, right out of high school, you are ALMOST ready to be pro. Baseball, thanks to its extensive minor league system, can handle high schoolers. Going to the NFL right out of high school would ruin a kid's opportunity at a real career.

I highly doubt any NFL teams would waste a draft pick on a HS kid anyway.

I think it should be the same as MLB. If you want to go pro you should be able to, but if you go to a school you should have to be there for at least 2 seasons. I know the MLB is 3 but I think 2 would be reasonable.

NBA set the rule because their teams were being forced to take flyers on high school stars...on the hope that who they drafted would lean more Amare Stoudemire than Robert Swift. The current one and out option allows them to vet their prospects more realistically. If the NCAA takes that one year away, they'll adjust to get it back...they're calling the real shots here.

Out of HS, 1 year, 2 years or 3, a player should be allowed to leave when ever they want. If the average college student gets offered a job making millions, they don't have to stay 3 years before they can take the job. Athletes shouldn't be any different.

You'd be surprised.

Well most jobs making millions would be in the entertainment industry...acting, singing etc so no they wouldn't have to go to college X amount of years. Or if a company wanted to hire some wizz kid, and didn't care if he had a degree, he wouldn't be forced to go to or stay in school. If they need a degree to take a job, then yeah they would have to wait, but that's a completely different situation. Basketball players don't need no stinking degree. Lol

If they really wanted the kid in private industry but it needed a degree they'd hire him and lock him in and then let him take are of the education after the fact. Secure the talent, if you will.
