NCAA Decision on Additional Eligibility for Winter and Spring Sports

Yes to spring, no to winter. So the senior basketball players are officially done.

Coronovirus: NCAA will grant spring sports athletes extra eligibility

The hidden story here is if many of them will even have a sport to play. We're headed for a severe recession at best and if football season is shortened or not played at all there will be major revenue consequences for AD's all over the country. I know of at least 2 G5 schools and 1 P5 school making contingency plans and both involve cutting multiple sports.

This is where you find out who had the better lawyers...schools or coaches. P5 schools gotta be scrambling for "out clauses" for paying coaches $4MM+ when there's no revenue. Meanwhile, Butch Jones still getting paid thru Feb 2021.

There are ways to stop this Pandemic. Stop playing politics and administer the meds that show promise; (I refer to the malaria drug which has been successful in every trial and the antivirals) and Everyone wears a mask whenever they go anywhere to keep from spreading the Virus. So, treat the sick patients, and issue the N95 masks to every Citizen to prevent further infection. Within two Months (probably less) you have it totally under control; IF you don't allow Foreign travel and when you do, quarantine them for 14 days and test before and after. And of course Sanitize everything! Fixtures, Sidewalks, Streets, ect. This virus was detected in the Hallways surrounding the rooms at U Nebraska Hospital where the first patients from the Cruise Ship were sent to be quarantined & treated---Indicating that it can be transmitted through the HVAC system. It is super contagious and Deadly. Extreme measures are essential. If this approach is adopted, we can return to life similar to what we knew before the outbreak; If we continue doing the things we have learned from it.

I agree with your take on "what to do". However these things will only slow it down and "hot spots" will occur all the time. The only way to stop this MAN MADE VIRUS is with an antidote. Which I feel the responsible entity has and is using on a selective bases. The disease, like measles, polio and others that have ravaged mankind over time can only be stopped with a world wide vaccine and the will to use it and all isolation techniques. Damn!!! I hate being so gloom and doom!!! But after living through the afore mentioned illness eras and all the others sense the early 1940s this is the way I see it.

Agree with you...anti-virus is the way
I see it coming soon
We went from 8-15 hour tests results to a 15 minute test result,, in less than a month
I feel the AV is on the way
We just have to be smart until then

I shopped for the month last week and only go out to walk in Patriot Park every other day to keep my body active enough until gyms open. Even there I practice Social Distancing

Yes, an anti-virus is on the way from some BIG pharmaceutical company. It will cost .50 cents to produce and cost $500 to every human on the planet. Our president being a billionaire himself will see this as "business as usual" and do nothing. You and I get screwed just like always by big companies who really don't give a s*it about the common man, only the $$$$

The problem with this Virus is it actually uses your immune system Against you; your immune response is to flood the lungs with fluids to attack the virus; and you drown in your own phlegm. We just lost the star Football Player on our HS team from this virus. He worked out religiously. Load up on Zinc; that seems to be the best protection as it inhibits the virus' ability to replicate. Zinc with an anti-viral is the best scenario; as the antiviral (Malaria drug is the best) enhances the body's ability to absorb the zinc. ZINC is flying off the shelves; and now we know why.

Absolutely MAN MADE; the Lie about the wet market has been exposed; as there were no "Horseshoe Bats" anywhere near that wet market. This was manufactured to be a Bio Weapon, but was "Accidentally" released from the Lab in Wuhan. Speculation is that was in response to the demonstrations that had gained a foothold in Hong Kong; and you notice that has been shut down. Communist China doesn't worry about Collateral Damage; nor do they value human (or animal) life. So they stop the demonstrations, and hurt The US Economy. A win win.

If only. But sadly, we actually didn't. You may want to put me on one of your laughable unreliable lists, and I'm sure the fact I work inside a respiratory ICU won't stop you. But the rule out test still takes at least five days, and that's where the PPE is going. Into a black hole while we wait. Can you imagine the blow to us when our "leader" suggested we're stealing it? Fortunately, we're so numb right now it was just another gut punch.

It's interesting to me to see all the opinions and speculation, and its so intense on the inside some of you may actually have a clearer picture. But I can tell you this for sure: this battle was lost, and many lives with it, when early tests which were very successful for other countries were declined. I'm not clear on why that was, my own politically-tinged speculation is it was the prevailing distrust of global institutions like WHO by the current party in power and a whacky "Merica can do it better!" mentality. Well Merica has failed miserably on testing, except of course for the famous and powerful who seem to get their results in hours.

Some of our cruelest moments, and its hard to make that distinction at this point, have been a couple of times when we've actually gotten a rapid test, but both times the results were found to be unreliable and the patients returned to isolation to wait out the five day purgatory of PPE use. Know what that means? Between the times we were told to take them out of iso for a neg test and the time they were put back in iso, staff was in and out of room unprotected all the time. Can't stuff that genie back in the bottle.

Now we are actually discouraged from testing so that PPE is saved, I was told just yesterday that testing to err on the side of caution is not possible. And don't get me started on the many safety standards being rolled back to make PPE go further. Things we would be written up for last month are now required practice.

One more thing, the notion of multiple patients on one vent is idiotic and according to our pulmonologists, unethical except in extreme battlefield like circumstances. Believe me, we long ago thought of t-tubes and multiple hoses on vents, that is so not the problem. The problem is that vent settings are very specific and like a prescription for the patient. They are determined by weight, amount of support needed, blood gas levels, etc. So if you have more than one pt, who's setting do you use? We've heard talk of trying to match up pts w similar needs, but one of my docs literally punched a wall at that notion. The pt's needs change during the course of the disease, so you'd literally be playing musical pts to try to keep them matched up. My docs say in reality, you're screwing both pts and the ethical thing to do would be pick the one with the best chance and give them the vent. Also, I've seen the filter that's supposed to prevent cross contamination from the patients' output and its a joke.

Ya'll please, please, stay home, hard as it is. Pray for a vaccine, and for all of us.

As much as you make me cringe, thanks. I can't really explain how hard and draining it is, and I'm worried that emotionally, I can't take much more. The only thing worse than being there though is not being there and I'd never leave my coworkers right now. Its getting harder and harder to relax on a day off, especially in strict iso from everyone I love. Thanks again for the support and prayers.

The Pres often speaks without thinking
I love the way he handles the fame-seeking reporters but despise the way he is accusing the hospitals...I truly hope you guys get the materials and PPE you need.

you lost me when you gave the WHO any cred.
Yep, that's what I'm talking about. People are dying bc dumbass politicos got lost at WHO. We would take tests from anyone that proved successful, which those did. But blind politicization ruled that out, the rule outers proved completely unable to come up with anything more credible, and now we are where we are. But by God we put those evil globalists in their place!

you think those Chinese testkit results are legit?
Not sure what Chinese testkit you are referring to, maybe the misstatement, later retracted by Dr Brix at the presser the other day. But the WHO simply provided protocols based on a German test, which proved highly successful. We could leave WHO out altogether, they just served as an info clearinghouse. But once you pick a boogeyman, that's it. Like you, Merica First dismissed this out of hand due to WHO involvement, said they could do better, but simply haven't.

Now I'm too exhausted to argue all this anymore.

But I just HAVE to take a swing at this. Read the last clause back slowly and see if it sounds as dumb to you as it does to me. The Chinese win by hurting the US economy? So the manufacturer wins if they burn down the store? I'm trying to picture the Chinese leadership conversation in which its a good idea to get the US population locked down, financially broke, and out of WalMart. Why in the world would they benefit by destroying their best customer?

If you're going Chinese conspiracy, accidental release works way better than intentional.

I also work for a hospital although on the administrative side. And I hear from the clinicians on the ground how tough it's been and how everyone is bracing for the worst. I can't imagine what it's like being face to face with the patients during this time. Prayers with you, and thank you for your dedication to your patients!

“Conspiracy theories are belief in the devil, and they relieve people from the obligation of confronting the problem as it is.” MLK Jr.
Not sure about the devil part but we do tend to get distracted by the latest shiny object (conspiracy theory).

The Chines economy has suffered since the Tariffs were implemented; and the US economy before COV19 was outperforming the entire World. Maybe Just Maybe this was a set up to take Trump down. China SURELY liked the way things were going with the Democratic give away to China; which began under Clinton & Gore; I remember very clearly when those two auctioned our Technology off to the Chinese; which led to China being who they are today--the Industrial and Economic power We used to be.
