NCAA finals game thread

I can't wait to watch Joke Kim Ghandi try to guard Garnett and Dirk. He'll be "getting done big time."
on the other side of the coin, i think it's safe to say that Oden is pretty good........i was fairly impressed.

Noah did not have a big game. Oden manhandled him, but then again if it wasn't for a couple of 10 footers and some free throws, he'd have shut down Horford, too.

I am beginning to think you guys are right and that Noah may not amount to much in the NBA. He needs to get more bulk if he ever hopes to.

Brewer, however, may find himself getting some serious attention now.

I've at least been able to muster some happiness for Brewer, since he's from not too far from my locale. Not much, but some.

brewer's ball handling needs to improve, but they guy can shoot. Horford is the one guy that i think will be a signifcant NBA player. the others........dunno. i'm definitely in the camp of "noah will not be a great NBA player" now. he looked clumbsy out there tonight, and his jump shot had little to be desired.

it was a "team" effort, which is what got them to this point in the first place........the sum of the parts is greater than any one pc.

He can be a little sloppy handling the ball at times, and he can also make some bad decisions, pressing when he does not need to. But I think he's capable of playing at NBA pace, and that means something.

With the kind of talent it takes to repeat as national champs, there is definitley some future all-star talent on the UF squad. If not Noah, then the others.

Haven't read nearly anything on this thread, here is my thought on the game..

The game was very, very even. Ohio State lost it all on their own, they couldn't hit an open 3 to save their lives. This game was simply a matter of one team who shot well and another who didn't. But hey, that's how basketball games go. That little bit is the difference between heartbreak and greatness. Florida played ugly throughout the tournament then started stroking them just in time to take the trophy home. Ohio State played ugly throughout the tournament to go cold at just the wrong time.

Corey Brewer's defense is going to make him a very, very wealthy young man.

This team has certainly demonstrated that concept better than any other I can think of. I mean, talk about a team with no real star. As they pointed out, all five starters averaged within a point or two and each is a 1,000 point guy. That's remarkable these days.

pretty fair. though, i wouldn't say FL was "ugly" thruout the tourney...

Florida played great defense and no one emerged offensively (though Humphrey really was the quiet assassin all tournament long). The Gators' ability to chage gears -- inside for awhile, then outside, then back in -- that's what made them the best team in the tournament again.

agreed...i was impressed with him on the defesnive side of the ball...the steals and def. rebounding was huge in that game...good point.

yep........billy d deserves a TON of credit. people, esp. 18-23 year old college bball players with the college world at their feet, don't buy in to "team" on their own...........i have a lot of respect for CBD.

Corey Brewer is the only guy who will come close to being an NBA All Star.

Don't you think Horford has potential? Brewer might be more likely right now to get decent NBA minutes, but Horford seems to have a little bit of everything and in the right situation could be a great asset to somebody.

i would classify Humphrey (thanks Buzz) as the silent assasin for that team.......has anyone ever been that quiet about being the Tounrey's all time 3 pt shooter? or, and i didn't know this, that he was the team's high scorer (i forget what exactly they said, but they alluded to LH being the gator's high scorer in the final four...is that right?).....

Donovan deserves a lot of credit but it was also the character of those players. Just the right combination of personalities at the right time.

Not sure on the last stat there, but may be correct.

Humphrey is a guy that you easily lose track of and there he is waiting for the open three on the baseline. And just when OSU would cut it to 7, boom. Back to double digits.

Horford will be a solid NBA player. Solid doesn't get you on NBA All Star teams.

Yeah, they kinda were. They had turnover problems among other things, but everybody still picked them because they have had that "destiny" feel since selection Sunday.

This year, Florida was just one of those teams that you look at them and say "No matter how bad they play, they're still going to take it all at the last second, because they're Florida." Same thing can be said throughout history about teams like UCLA Bruins, New England Patriots, Chicago Bulls, Pittsburgh Steelers, etc.

Stat of the night: Ohio State 4/23 from the three point line.

All in all, congrats to the Gators. They may not have been the best team throughout the season, but they still played their way to a 1-seed and played well when it counted. That's what success in college basketball is, getting hot at just the right time.

that's what did it for me....every time it felt like FL was losing momentum or that OSU was on the verge, either LH or CB made a big 3.....clutch. and yuou could see it on the OSU players' faces.......just total dejection....

You better relish these moments right now. Youth will rear its ugly head next year in football, and basketball. Your carpet ride is officially over Law. No way UF repeats in anything next year.

Got to win in the postseason. This Gator team finishes 18-0 between last year's and this year's SEC and NCAA tournaments.

That is the most astounding statistic of all.

well, ok, i'll give you that, but i don't recall FL really struggling with anyone....they basically played the same type of game they have played all tourney long....not pretty, but double digit win. so how ugly is it really?

No doubt. Can't say there isn't any luck involved. Florida won this with skill, there's no question about that, but Ohio State' 3-shooting was absolutely horrid. Can't say that didn't help Florida's cause immensley.

What I meant to imply was, Florida managed to slow themselves down throughout the tourney more than anyone else slowed them down.
