I guess I mentioned the crack pipe to the wrong person...Was this really a discussion????I'll attempt to make it easy for you NIMRODS to understand. What is better??? To lose in round 1 of the NIT or round 1 of the NCAA ???????
There is no situation where playing in the NIT is superior to a berth in the NCAA Tournament, regardless of outcome. As noted by others, the question is loaded with false assumptions regarding UT's likely progression in the NCAAs.
Having said that, I think that for just about any team, save perhaps for one literally comprised only of freshmen, 'tis better to make it into the NCAA tourney and get blown out the first day than make it to the NIT Final Four.

How much did the one and done pressure of the NIT help prepare Florida for this season?I think if you had a roster of 9 true freshmen then getting into the NIT and advancing to the Final Four might pay off in succeeding seasons more than getting in and getting absolutely thrashed by some high seed out of the Big East. Not so much because of their fragile youth, but just to play more games with one-and-done pressure on them so as to know what that's like.
I would note that if Florida ends up in the NIT this year (and should they lose to Kentucky I'd say that is a given), I wish Donovan would have the gumption to turn it down and put these guys in the wieght room for the week they would otherwise spend in the NIT. I know he won't do it for political reasons, but the NIT won't do this Gator team any good.
