NCAA to allow messages on jerseys

Just when I think this board can’t get any weirder. I support the “Volnation is Embarrassing AF ” patch

GF was not an EMT but he didn’t deserve to die for passing a fake $20. Do you always have problems with black men? Guessing the answer is yes.
So eager to play the race card aren't you? You are right he shouldn't die for a counterfeit 20. He should die though for what he did a few years prior. He broke into a pregnant woman's home and stuck a pistol to her stomach, I forget what for but it doesn't really matter. He was scum and I'm glad he's gone.

Just to play devil's advocate, what happens if one of the players wants to put "White Lives Matter" or "Cats Lives Matter" or "No Lives Matter"?

Is the NCAA gonna be the arbitrator of what is a "social justice cause" and what is not?

This is seriously dumb, and will not end well.
We agree on this one

today's headline - "NCAA to allow uniform patches for social justice causes"

bad idea  --- wonder who will be in charge of censorship? --- will Trump 2020, Q, or RIP Redskins be allowed? How about All Lives Matter? F--- the Police? Free Hong Kong?
Not to mention they have to fall under Title IX regulations which opens up another can of worms

This will not end well:

The NCAA will allow student-athletes in all sports to wear social justice statements on their uniforms, including replacing last name with words to celebrate or memorialize people, events or other causes.

Sadly, I smell the end of my Rabid Vol Fan days. It's bound to happen, and when it does.....

Okay so I'm watching the NBA and everything about it reminds you of the only two issues anyone has been talking about for MONTHS.

It screams CORONAVIRUS and POLITICS.

From the zoom fans to the shields, masked assistants. To the BLM on the court and every single player having some political message on it.

Hard to focus on the actual sport. It's already watered down because they're rusty and there are no fans. Now for them to push a political movement so blatantly on top of all that gives it a very surreal feel.

Look I'm fine with people believing in whatever they beleive, but it's really not necessary to put it in sports. It's not changing anybodies minds, just creating an even denser echo chamber at best. America has never been more political than it is now. Most have social media and it's in our face every second of the day already. I mean Jesus Christ.

My other issue is this. Will a player even have a choice on whether or not they want to put a political message on their back? Doesn't seem like anybody in the NBA has a choice. Seems like every team has the same messages.

Will they be ostricized if they elect not to? "Oh he's the racist on the team!" Will they be suspended? If a group of players disagrees that will cause a rift within the team. When you recruit players do they have to not only qualify by being talented enough, but do they now have to have the "correct" political beliefs?

Alienate fans. Alientate players. Politicize everything. Agree or leave.

I mean it might fizzle out, but it could easily become a slippery slope.

It can get messy, but won’t affect my decision to watch a sport. I’m not offended by everyone else’s free speech.

I wish politics were out of everything except politics, but that’s not realistic. It is what it is. The bottom line is that many on here, like allvol123, are outraged over a 2 inch patch on a uniform so much that they are vowing not to watch Vol football like some Ivy League snowflake freshman protestor, all the while bemoaning how everyone is offended at everything on other threads. Funny to watch when the tables are turned on these weak minded hypocrites.

What it really boils down to, though, is that some on here don’t want to see a PLAYER they are rooting for support something they don’t. That’s what makes them uncomfortable, not the NCAA, the PLAYER. They don’t see them as people with causes they are passionate about, just ball players wearing the right uniform that are there to entertain them and give them a victory for Tennessee.

Really good point. It just boils down to raw tribalism at its core.

Times are crazy right now, people expecting politics not to permeate every facet of society are not gonna have a good time.

You’re trying to project a title on to me that has already clearly been branded on you because of what you’ve posted in this thread. It’s very transparent and everyone can see right through it. I’m not the one threatening to not watch football because of the micro aggression of seeing a 2 inch patch on my favorite team’s uniform. That’s YOU, partner. Go find a safe space somewhere, your gig is weak
It's funny there was a similar thread posted last night in which he/she voiced his/her frustrations about this exact same topic. It's like he/she seeks out things that'll make him/her angry.

I can see myself not attending or watching any Vol sporting events. Let the social justice warriors support the university by buying the tickets, buying the concessions, and watching the games on TV.

Let me open by saying that I completely agree with you. But there is a time and a place for every thing.

I don't watch football, or baseball, or soccer, or golf, or NASCAR, or whatever sport I choose to watch, with the intent to watch teams or players make a political, personal, or societal statement. Not why they are there, and not why I'm there. I'm there to watch a game. Competitive sport. That, and nothing more.

For example, I didn't go watch "The Magnificent Seven" to see Denzell Washington on screen with a "BLM" patch on his western getup, kneeling at the start of the movie to "make a statement". I went to watch one of the best actors of our time do what he does best. Act.

I watch sports for the enjoyment of entertainment, sans the political guano that I have to wade through during the remaining 164 hours of the week when I'm not trying to watch sports, and be entertained.

And so it goes...or used to...for professional sports. I can't remember the last NBA game I watched, but I'm fairly certain Michael Jordan was still making impossible shots in Chicago when I did. NBA, NFL, NASCAR, MLS, and MLB have now lost me. Almost no chance they'll get me back. As for the "W (you pick the rest of the letters)", I never watched, so odds are they won't notice I'm still not there.

So when it comes to sports, if the athletes decide to exercise their right to free speech, I support that right, and their action, completely. What I will not do is watch them ruin what used to be entertainment for me. That's my right.

Plenty of room for them on any given day at any given peaceful protest. Plenty of legitimate causes that would welcome their financial support. As we've seen, teddy bears and candles aren't doing much to reduce the plague of senseless murders in Chicago, just to name one of many.

You want to make a difference? Trade that phrase on your jersey for one day a month of your actual involvement in the issues you purport to be so passionate about. Get up off your knee, and take a damn stand. Stand for something, for once in your life.

Rant over. I need a beer.....

If it ruins it for you then so be it. Just be prepared for having much of life ruined for you Going forward - politics and social justice causes are everywhere and apart of everything now.

allvol123 is an illogical tool whose only shtick is to call people stupid when they don’t agree with him

Agreed, but it doesn't ruin much..if any...of my life. It simply requires me to refocus on the things which are truly important to me. My faith, my family, and my friends. All of which will and have benefitted by me having more time to devote to all of them.

Not to mention my yard and my garage.

I was going to quote that and pretty much say what you just did, but I didnt want to speak for you.

I'm amazed at how many need these events so much in their life. I was probably guilty of it at some point as well.

The pandemic has been a lemon, but some of the lemonade I have made from it is the things you referenced focusing on.

Use the @ sign when you want to speak about someone and not look like a p**** doing it.

Funny coming from someone who has admitted on this thread they will not watch football because a 2 inch patch on a uniform is intolerable.

BTW - you didn’t disagree with my description of you

I see. So the dumb@ss that you are is bothered by the fact I wont watch something because I disagree with the political and social statements they are making. You are literally what you claim I am.

I dont agree with you, I just dont put much effort in refuting it because you're quite the idiot.

Dude, you’ve put in a full day’s work trying to refute it. You don’t want to watch? Fine, I just pointed out how silly and hypocritical it is and you went nuts. That’s all.

So now you say I've spent all day refuting something when one post earlier yoy claimed I must agree since I didnt dispute it. You're all over the place kid.

And where did I go nuts? Can you point to my sentences that end in exclamation points? Or you have super powers that allow you to gauge the emotions of another person on the interwebs?

What is the hypocritical part?

There isnt one. You just throw things on the wall and hope they stick.

I get it. You need your footbaw for your empty miserable life. No one has asked you not to get it. You can rest easy.

Good morning. Work on this ^ post all night before submitting?

I feel like Joe Kelly and you’re Correa in this thread.

You cant even follow your own logic. You're scared of the Klan because you dont support them. Stop being such a scared little snowflake, boy.

The KKK example was to point out the extreme end of the continuum. A continuum that you laud the NCAA clowns as being able to be competent caretakers of.
They should hire Luther to manage the continuum for them. He’s the Dr. Fauci of continuums.
