NCAA Tournament Thread

Once UF got eliminated, which Ray Charles saw coming as soon as the field was announced, I wanted to see entertaining games...which is what we’ve seen the past four days.

The thought of a Texas Tech-Virginia final is anything but entertaining.

For the casual fan, CBB’s regular season is all but irrelevant. This season was different because of ZW, for me at least. I enjoyed watching the kid play.

I have no problem with a UVA TT final. 2 great coaches running great teams.

I’ve watched plenty my friend. He’s a great one dimensional player. That. Is. All.

They don’t play D in the NBA so you can throw that part of the game out the window.

Which dimension is that?

Perimeter D is more important than ever. It's not that they don't play D, it's that it's harder to play because the game is so spread out (thus the need for better perimeter D), and these guys are super athletes.

The casual fan disagrees with you.

Now I’ll watch, because I’m all about seeing new schools winning a NC in hoops, which is rare. But you and I both know the casual fan isn’t watching a UVA-TTech final.

What the hell is a casual fan? I don't have time to follow college basketball regularly, so I would classify myself as casual. I enjoy all 4 teams in the FF over watching Duke.

Weird how Duke basketball gets eyeballs, new phenomenon. But great job deciding who I represent.

I didn't decide. You aren't the average casual fan if you hate a guy because he's a star. You're the old curmudgeon in the neighborhood, "Get off my lawn Zion!"

I’m not a betting man, but I reckon the ratings for a Texas Tech-Virginia national title game would prove you wrong. Casual CBB fans won’t care about that matchup.

True, because the gaggles of UK, Duke, etc. Bandwagon fans built up over decades will have zero interest.

Yep, that’s kinda how ratings work.

A couple teams with little CBB brand recognition won’t draw a big number.

Hell, UF’s first NC in hoops was one of the lower rated national title games...it is what it is.

Was it really? That was against UCLA. I don't pay attention to ratings but that surprises me.

Holy moly.

1. We finished the SEC 15-3 and the 2nd seed. You can argue the UT > UK or whatever, but over 18 games we were not the 4th best team.
2. Houston is a good team. Wofford is a good team. Both top 20 teams according to KenPom. That's just fact. Auburn is 11th.
3. We're a 2 seed because we had a good Quad 1/2 record. Almost exactly the same as Virginia, Duke, UNC, Michigan State, etc etc. All this while dealing with injuries to 2 starters during the season.

We lost in overtime to an underseeded Auburn team who has one of the better offenses and is playing hot. Explain to me how losing in the Elite 8 as a 2 seed in overtime = overrated.

You lose in the tourney to LSU, ut, or auburn.

How does that not make you the fourth best team?

Simple math.

A quick Google search yielded the following ratings since 2000:

2000 - 14.1 (Michigan State vs Florida)
2001 - 15.6 (Duke vs Arizona)
2002 - 15.0 (Maryland vs Indiana)
2003 - 12.6 (Syracuse vs Kansas)
2004 - 11.0 (Georgia Tech vs UConn)
2005 - 15.0 (North Carolina vs Illinois)
2006 - 11.2 (Florida vs UCLA)
2007 - 12.2 (Florida vs Ohio State)
2008 - 12.1 (Kansas vs Memphis)
2009 - 10.8 (North Carolina vs Michigan State)
2010 - 14.2 (Butler vs Duke)
2011 - 11.7 (Butler vs UConn)
2012 - 12.3 (Kentucky vs Kansas)
2013 - 14.0 (Louisville vs Michigan)
2014 - 12.4 (UConn vs Kentucky)
2015 - 16.0 (Duke vs Wisconsin)
2016 - 10.6 (Villanova vs North Carolina)
2017 - 13.2 (North Carolina vs Gonzaga)
2018 - 9.2 (Villanova vs Michigan)

It bears noting the lowest ratings were years where TBS aired the final game (2016 and 2018).

That said, the 2006 final was one of the lower rated national title games.

Gimme a break. If Zion were a Vol, you'd be slobbering all over him

I don't enjoy that basketball. You may have some mental problems or something, but me not wanting to like what you insist I should like, is your flaw, not mine.

Now shoot back another "you..blah blah blah...."

That logic makes no sense. Good job ignoring all the facts to just say a completely theoretical idea of how to rank teams...as opposed to actually looking at 18 games during the season.

What exactly don't you enjoy? I get you saying Duke doesn't play good team ball, but that's not Zion's fault. He's a great team ball player. He's averaging 23 on 13 fga's, FFS. You act like he plays selfish hero ball. He plays excellent D and he hustles, so what's not to like?

How is it theoretical?

U loss to us last game of sec tourney for u.
You lost to auburn just now without there best player.

U have lost the last two sec games u played but somehow u wann bring up the regular season and how u beat scrubs.

Yes u did.

But u got ur ass kicked by ut at Knoxville, beat by ut in tourney, and beat again by auburn just now.

So we are debating at most whether or not u are the third best team or fourth best team in the sec.

Fine u win. Your better than the regular season SEC champs LSU cause somehow You say so even though the damn trophy is now on their campus.
