I think the knock on Riley is his recruiting. Considering what little talent he works with year after year, he has outperformed in that sense. His recruiting classes should be better at Nebraska than OSU, but I don't think enough so that it translates into any more success than Bo had.

Also, Pac12 > Big10

Literally anyone Michigan hires (barring it being Brady Hoke again) will be viewed as a superior hire to this. What a great day.

Oregon State should go after Pelini.

What is more bewildering; this hire, or the Gene Chizik hire?

This is a pretty baffling hire. Mike Riley is a good coach for sure. He can't be blamed for bad recruiting at Oregon State where facilities are rough and competition is high. He finds sleepers and gets the most out of them. But this is so out of left field. And he's about to turn 62. As much as I like Riley I would not be excited to be a Husker fan right now.

Maybe but he last did that in 2012 and before that it was 2006-2008. He is 12-13 the past 2 seasons. As someone else said, this would have made sense 6 years ago, not now.

And even if at best it's lateral, why make the move? Especially when it's nowhere near a given he even sustains what Pelini was doing.

Stupid all around.

How do you fire a guy that went 9-3 for a guy that went 5-7? I actually kinda like NE. Figured they would be going all out this time.
