The reason beliema left, was he got tired of replacing asst coaches that left for more money. He kept trying to get more money for coaches, but Alvarez wouldn't budge on asst pay. Also Wisconsin has no outdoor practice field, and below average facilities.

Do all the Waltons donate to Arky? Sam is worth 1/3 what Warren is.

Warren Buffet net worth today - $63.3 Billion
Sam Walton net worth when he died 22 years ago - $65 Billion

If alive today, Sam would be worth well over $100 Billion

The University of Arkansas' "Campaign for the 21st Century" raised more than $1 billion for the school. That was completed in '05

I am sure Buffett gives no money to the University where he got his education and the city where he grew up an hour from...

I wonder how much Buffett had to pony up for the Huskers to land homerun hire Mike Riley

No idea about who donates what to who but in 2008 reported donations to Nebraska were 19 million Arkansas was at 12 million. Not really about who has the richest alums it how much they give.

Not saying Arkansas is a bad job, it's just not on the same level as Tennessee IMO

Arkansas is not a destination job. Tennessee > Arkansas and it's not even close.

While Arkansas is certainly not on the same level in regards to destination coaching jobs.. they aren't as far off as they used to be. That's not just true for Arkansas but for everyone in the SEC. The things that used to provide such a wide mote for one big program are quickly going to the wayside as power conferences are bulking up to compete for market share with one another. For example, due to recent television contracts, exposure is no longer the obstacle that it once was for smaller programs in this conference.

Anyway, we have both digressed from what my point was going to be in response to Bnhunt. He made mention that Bielema is not made for the SEC and should dash for the Big Ten. I brought up Butch Jones to help illustrate that coaches are only fantastic in hindsight. No one knows who is going to be a fantastic coach.. only who has been a fantastic coach. Neither Bielema nor Butch have gotten their respective programs to the point were they can be labeled "fantastic" coaches in this conference.. but we can both agree (surely) that it is a possibility in the future.

From Memphis and played bball. No real ties to Mizzou.

Actually Bill and Nancy Laurie donated money for the construction Mizzou's current arena. It was named after their daughter (Paige Arena) until she was caught in an academic cheating scandal at Southern Cal. Her name has since been removed from the arena at Mizzou

I said no ties in terms of why they donate. I know they're huge boosters at Mizzou, that's what makes it odd.

It is strange. However they are all from Columbia. Bill's brother played there and Nancy's nephew also played for Mizzou. I guess when you have all that money, you have to put it somewhere. I think that I remember that he had a part in forcing Norm Stewart to retire.

Bill and Nancy live there now I believe. But he was born and raised in Memphis and played bball for UM. She went to Memphis as well and I'm assuming she's from Arkansas like the rest of the Walton's. I'm not sure why they wouldn't give to UM.

Don't forget. Stan Kroenke who is married to a Walton is a big mizzou booster.

I do think Nebraska made a very good hire in Mike Riley. I think he's a better coach than Pelini AND he was about a million a year cheaper. Plus, Riley should fit in very well culturally in Nebraska/Lincoln.

I've got a lot of respect for Riley.

Exactly...this :good!:

Hard to judge him by his record with the mess he inherited. This year's team is night and day better than last year's.

We were just a few plays away from being 9-3 this year in a brutal SEC west
