We are thinking Chat game since it’s a noon kickoff and not as crowded. That way we can hang after and not worry about trying to boat back at night(BYU). Anyone else in with similar boats that weekend?

Here’s ours

It's roughly 44 miles from the Canal Ramp at the dam to Neyland Stadium.

From Concord Park to Neyland is about 31 Miles.

There is a ramp at the Marine Corps across the Alcoa Highway Bridge that's only about 3 or 4 miles from Neyland.

Back in the day I said I'd do the Vol Navy thing before I graduated. Back then I had a 14' Leaky Jon Boat with a 25 Horse Johnson on it. We did. 2 of my buddies and myself loaded in at the Marine Corps and headed to the Georgia Game. Just as we pulled out of the ramp area a 40' Sea Ray Cabin outfit waived us down. We stopped. He asked, "Do you all have any tools onboard?" I said, "Sure, you don't own a piece of crap like this and not carry a tool box. What do you need?"

He shows me 2 pieces of his drive shaft. I told him, "I've got tools but not a machine shop. I don't believe that's fixable." I offered to tow him to the game which we did. When we got there the I asked the TWRA guy where to park. He asked, "The jon boat or the cabin cruiser?" I said the big boat. We are going to have to pull the jon up on the bank. It'll sink before the game is over if nobody bails the water out.

So we parked the big boat and pulled mine up on the bank and headed to the game. After the game we got ready to go and found out my stern light was burned out. The TWRA guy stopped us and wouldn't let us go without it working. He said he'd let us follow him after everyone left. We waited about 30 minutes and not a single boat moved. I figured it'd be 3 am before everyone left. We bummed a cheap flashlight off someone and duct taped it to the pole and took off again. About the time we got to the same officer the flashlight quit. So here we went again. About 45 minutes later, I put the trolling motor down and eased out of there on the sly with no lights at all burning. I got down to the cement plant, fired up the engine and took off for the Marine Corps. We obviously made it and had a good time to boot.

I have since been to games in a bass rig. You do have to be careful parking a smaller boat even a 21 foot bass rig. Rafted up to the big boats they can beat a smaller one to death.

FWIW: This weekend in Chattanooga they've got the US Navy WWII 325LST docked up for it's tour. It will be there till the 27th.

By boat it would take a while from Knoxville but it's very doable. Lock out of Loudon, 70 miles down through Watts Bar to Chick, about 60 miles to Nickajack.

I imagine you need a lot of fenders to keep the boats from scuffing each other.

Also 8C King has a ramp, probably about 7 or 8 miles from the stadium. .

Since I'm in GA now, and have been for...hmm, 26 years now...I'm a UGA fan 364 days out of the year. You can probably figure out the one Saturday when I'm not. So take this from an "almost fellow Dawg fan"...

Being a native of Tennessee, and with my family line being rooted in the Volunteer State back to (at least) the War of Northern Aggression, let me offer you this friendly piece of advice: If your "Vol Navy friend" suggests a "friendly game of Plank" on the way to the game, politely decline. They are going to make an example out of you.

Stick with I-20. It's safer by far.

Go Vols.

After reading some of these posts, attending a game via Vol Navy just made my bucket list. If it means taking a jon boat down the Nolichucky and French Broad from Erwin to get there, so be it. Damn the dams, full speed ahead!
