Needing prayers.

We'll definitely be praying for the little guy, and that everything will be okay after surgery. Praying for all of you.
Thanks, Joe! The first thing I thought when my daughter told me what was going on was “OMG, this is so similar to what happened to Tiffany!” Prayers back atcha for success from her specialists at Cleveland Clinic!

I honestly thought about that while reading your post, and thank you as well.

Thanks again, everyone. My church prayer group is now also on board.

Update: Luke is now in the Levine Children’s Hospital NICU, and daughter, son in law, and big brother are finally together in a nearby hotel. Surgery should be Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, depending on how the Foley cath changes go. (They are slowly enlarging the urethra with increasingly bigger Foley catheters so that the surgical instruments will fit. Apologies to the gennulmens here.) Then maybe discharged home two days later.

They meet the nephrologist tomorrow about the state of his kidneys, but someone (nephrologist by phone??) told them that 1 of 3 babies with this condition have chronic renal (kidney) disease, but 2 of 3 don’t, and “his instinct” is that Luke’s will be ok. We like those odds! And so we will see.

Hubs and I will find out if we need to go down to Charlotte to mind the four year old on day of surgery, but their friends are desperate to help.

I had to remind myself that he won’t be a week old until this coming Saturday evening.
That's gotta be scary as hell. Praying you guys through this.

I’d be grateful for prayers for the new grandbaby Luke.

Although the birth went well, and he’s a classic sweet calm second baby, nursing well, he has a congenital partial urinary obstruction. The fetal ultrasounds showed one kidney looking a little odd, but no one expected anything this severe. He could lose both kidneys if this is not corrected.

He is able to pee, but not completely, so he is stuck in the hospital, now on the pediatrics ward. He will be transferred, maybe Friday, to Charlotte for specialty neonatal urologic surgery (endoscopic, not open. @Tin Man, you’re in good company. He had his cystogram about the same time as you.) We don’t know how long he’ll be hospitalized after that.

This is obviously hard on all of us, especially the four-year-old, who hasn’t seen his mom since Friday night, his little brother at all except over phone, and his dad until this morning. No visitors, of course. He’s hanging in there, but he’s confused and upset.

Thoughts and prayers appreciated for little Luke, the dedicated healthcare professionals, and the rest of us, as we go through this journey.

Whew, good timing on this post, just received. (Surgery was robotic):
Surgery done. Took longer than expected because of equipment issues. Leaving Foley in until tomorrow night, watching him Sat to see how he does without it, possible discharge Sun. He's still intubated but they're getting ready to extubate and then we'll get to be with him in the NICU.

Did you get any sleep last night? Have you heard from anybody to know they their night went?
I slept nearly eight hours! Heaven. Hubs is still conked out. Son-in-law rode down the elevator with laundry —hey, just walked into dining room with grandson. I think my daughter is trying to get more sleep. Or pumping again.
