I do not think that an established div I basketball coach could be induced to come to Tenn, because of the money, and; why take the risk of leaving a successful program where there is job security to a school where there would be none?
But, there are many young, excellent coaches (as shown by their team's play), even in Div 2 and 3, who would jump at the chance to coach at Tenn- and for the same pay that Holly is getting now, for the opportunity to coach at a school with the tradition, fan base and top level players.
Everyone is thinking, "So what, I know that. The question no one has an answer to is how to convince the AD and Univ of Tenn governance to replace Holly.
The answer is- it has to come from above- the new governor. He is still in the after-glow of gaining office.
What do you think his reaction would be if he was deluged with emails. letters, phone calls, and petitions, from thousands of voters, demanding that Holly be replaced.
There are myriad reasons, but, I would highlight discrimination against women, specifically that the University of Tennessee AD and administration are violating Title IX, by subjecting the Univ. of Tennessee women's basketball players to substandard coaching, to the detriment of their future professional careers as players and coaches.
This would not be tolerated in a top men's program.
Are there any lawyers out there who would file a lawsuit? Whether it would win is immaterial. It would generate a lot of publicity. The Governor would want explanations. How would the AD and Tenn administrators like to be called before the legislature and explain their actions in a televised hearing?
For the governor, what are the political calculations. One the one side- every women and girl in Tennessee, and even some men, including his own family members. (And his own party whispering in his ear,)
And on the other side- anybody?
Lady Vol fans have been treated with contempt by the AD and UTenn administration- it is time they were put in the hot seat. and felt some public humiliation.
Who knows if this will work. But, when I see something I don't like, I use every arrow in my quiver to fight it and am satisfied with that.
