I see a lot of "star-skeptics" on here. The stars don't mean anything. As I said before, I went to Kell High School with Brian Randolph. I was two grades above him and he caught my eye during my junior year when he earned a spot on the varsity roster, as a freshman. He came in at tailback in our "Oklahoma" drill and he was running over the bigger seniors and juniors. I thought to myself, "wow this kid is powerful and has Adrian Peterson-like moves". He singlehandedly won two of the games that season all because of his athleticism. The next year we had a new coaching staff and they saw a defensive spark in Brian's eyes that none of us had seen before. In his sophomore year he started at FS, the first time he had ever played defense in his career. He tallied 117 tackles, 9 pass break-ups, and 3 interceptions and on offense he had 800 rushing yards with 6 touchdowns (his older brother was the starting running back and they alternated carries based on the formations) Not too shabby for his first time playing defense, eh?
The following year he tallied 136 tackles and 4 interceptions whilst on the offensive side of the ball he tallied 1,100 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
His senior year was his most brilliant with 162 tackles, 4 interceptions, 1 sack, 9 pass break-ups, and offensively he added 1,100 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, 400 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
He constantly played through pain and left everything on the field. He ran a 4.4 and was ideal size for a safety standing at 6' 195 pounds with room to grow. There wasn't a reason under the sun Randolph wasn't rated a 4 star safety. The kid did it all and constantly out-performed everyone he played against.
So please stop thinking an athlete won't blossom just because he is only a 3*.
