New Commit- WR Ryan Jenkins

Do you really believe that a player's offer list doesn't affect the free recruiting services like Rivals? They simply don't have the manpower to rank players from across the country and rely to some extent on offer lists.

ok, then how does alabama or other certain schools have any 3 star commitments?

why did the recruiting services not immediately change the prospect's ranking once they were offered by alabama?

I know *s seem to be really great. But as many coaches have stated along with some of the sports analyst who do know what they're talking about. They say stars are for the fans and sports writers. Some of the best football atheletes know were rated as mere 3* players. So don't whine when we don't get a bunch of 4&5* recruits. Its what the coaches bring out of them that counts. Its like baseball, you don't need the best talent. You need nine guys playing as a team.

Kamoshika posted this in the recruiting forum:
Jenkins' numbers last year were modest (22 catches for 442 yards and 5 TDs, 2 rushes for 32 yards), but he really is a fantastic athlete.

Out of 1453 participants in Nike's SPARQ Combine in Atlanta last March, Jenkins' final SPARQ rating of 122.88 was 2nd highest (behind Jalen Ramsey's 130.32). He finished with the No. 1 vertical jump (41.3"), No. 1 40 (4.53), and No. 2 shuttle (4.01).

Jenkins later recorded a 3.94 shuttle time at a different Nike SPARQ combine. So out of over 12,000 combine participants nationally, Jenkins finished with the 7th-best vertical, 10th-best shuttle, and 14th-best SPARQ rating.

I believe they use laser timed 40's at the SPARQ camps. Obviously if he was first in ATL with a 4.53 40... he's FAST.

The 4.4's you see reported are mostly hand timed. They are very inconsistently done. There aren't alot of HS JR/SR players that run a legit 4.4.

ANDDDDD..... a sub 4 second shuttle is VERY, VERY quick.

ESPN has Ryan Jenkins as a 4 star WR and he is in the top ESPN 300. That's great news. But I can't believe Dooley's staff didn't offer him cause he's a Vol legacy, his dad played here as a corner. Coach Jones sent him an offer 3 days after he arrived in Knoxville. CBJ is doing work.

99gator, ALL of the recruiting sites consider who is chasing a recruit in their rankings. Saban and Miles have huge credibility. So yes, players they like are going to have that in their favor when being compared to other players of similar measurables and performance. I think that is all these guys are trying to tell you. Maybe the post that started it all was a bit of an exaggeration... but WHO recruits a player DOES impact the rating they get from the recruiting sites.

And don't forget... those sites make money when enthusiastic fans get their fan ego stroked. High flying programs with all kinds of new fans (and potential new customers for the recruiting sites)... will get a few tips of the hat when it comes to recruiting classes.

Are you serious? 95% of players listed as having 4.4 speed don't. Ryan Jenkins had the fastest 40 time out of 1400 participants at a Nike held combine in Atlanta at 4.53.

Atlanta Nike Football SPARQ Combine recap - ESPNHS

Check out the link Jenkins is tops five in virtually category.

On the clock...overrated. I'll take how fast he turns it on goin after the ball down the field.
