New DOJ Office of Environmental Justice

I have been keeping up with the Environmental movement since the 80s. This is an effort they make from time to time when white liberals start to lose interest in the environment and fundraising and energy begin to lag. It is basically a cynical attempt to use the accumulated grievances of the minority community against a new enemy. Saw a lot of attempts to do this during the Bush Sr years. It was an early attempt at what we now call intersectionality. It is parasitic and frankly disgusting.

Divide and conquer in the name of power. If we turn off the noise and live our daily lives, we seldom see it.

I mean, can the Biden administration create yet another useless department for hiring useless woke activists that does absolutely nothing for actual Americans while ignoring real problems? WHY YES, IT CERTAINLY CAN!

The Justice Department announced Thursday it is taking a “series of actions to secure environmental justice for all Americans.”

It includes a new office that will prioritize environmental justice and the climate crisis.

Attorney General Merrick Garland wrote in a statement, “Although violations of our environmental laws can happen anywhere, communities of color, indigenous communities, and low-income communities often bear the brunt of the harm caused by environmental crime, pollution, and climate change.”

Garland said the department will prioritize cases that will create the greatest impact on communities “most overburdened by environmental harm.”

As you can see, the fires of justice burn bright in recently hired agents of the newly constituted Office of Environmental Justice - POLUTERS EVERYWHERE BEWARE!

Its about time too, as at a US border, trash continues to pile up from illegals pouring over. I'm glad this is clearly going to be a priority now! Take that illegals! The DOJ is on you now for littering!

If the Republicans take the Presidency in 2024, they need to get rid of another large leftist hack department.

We already know democrats will call anyone trying to trim the fat off government a racist.

This is the worst administration ever.

I would announce on Day 1 that 20% of all federal agencies will be eliminated within 1 year. The head of each agency has 2 months to submit a written proposal as to why his agency should not be among that 20%. I'd also implement a hiring freeze in all agencies so government employees of one agency can't simply transfer to another one.
I think we need a constitutional amendment that places an automatic 10 year sunset provision on all federal legislation or programs. If it is not important enough to attract the limited attention of Congress after that time to reauthorize it, then it is no longer needed. It would force Congress to prioritize their efforts on only the most pressing problems

I am still waiting (frankly) on the Republicans to follow through and eliminate ANYTHING. It is a huge sore spot for me and is the most egregious example of Republicans TALKING a good game but ultimately doing absolutely nothing

I see it as yet another example of the left using minorities to gain political power and then cynically discarding them after the election. It is indeed true that pollution and waste sites are clearly worse in minority communities and that is wrong. But the white Libs never actually do anything to help. It is all about the money and the votes, not about solutions

When the Republicans win back the White House in 2024, they're going to have no problem cutting the crap out of federal spending simply by completely eliminating all these worthless federal departments (including the Department of Education and the CDC) and returning all these incompetent, liberal activists to the streets.
I've got troubling news for you.

If they discard them, then why the continual votes by them? Like programmed I suspect. That is the rationale that I cannot fathom.

Maybe the same reason I keep voting for Republicans even though they never actually do anything they promised. We humans can be really stupid (myself clearly included)
I mean, we can’t even get the Repubs to defund NPR for crying out loud. Except for a few angry editorials from the NYT and WP, it would be so easy
Maybe that is one reason Trump remains popular. He actually kept a promise when it got difficult. He promised to nominate solid conservative justices and he did and then he stuck with them even when the Democrats pitched their apoplectic hissy fits. Every other Republican would have folded and compromised. Trump didn’t and for that one fact I will ever be grateful. That is the sole reason we re maybe finally about to begin to curtail the American Holocaust known as Roe v Wade.

Gandolf...is it not odd that we see all this what looks to be discarded clothing? Looks like they all undress and probably get new clothing and sneakers.

I consider myself a conservative / libertarian.

I don't know enough about this new office to have an opinion, but I know a little about environmental justice.

Take a look into the mercury pollution of Poplar Creek in Oak Ridge and the history of the Scarboro community. That is a documented historical instance of the US govt polluting a creek that flows directly into a segregated community. It is still polluted to this day.

How should that be dealt with? Is the status quo good enough?

Look, I am not woke, but I am also not blind.

Biden is nothing but a corrupt politician, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

We have and are continuing to spend a whole bunch of money on that.

You my friend are as unelectable as I am.
I would have no problem getting elected. Keep in mind that if I were a politician, I would obviously do one of two things: 1) not disclose the full extent of my plans beforehand, or 2) flat-out lie about my plans (I mean, I AM a politician in this scenario).

I wasn't around back then, but I don't think I would have been opposed to the war effort taking place in Oak Ridge. Remediation is just a continuation of that effort, so you can't really complain about the money. Poplar Creek is amazing, except for the mercury....

Anyway, I don't know how the US should handle things from a 'justice' perspective, but I am not opposed to having the US govt look into its own past to find ways of doing things better in the future as a starting point.

Fish off the coast of Florida are Testing Positive for ANTIDEPRESSANTS, Prostate Medications, Antibiotics and Pain Relievers as Human Waste Water makes its way out to sea

Fish off the coast of Florida are testing positive for a slew of pharmaceuticals as human wastewater makes its way out into the sea.

Researchers at Florida International University and the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust - a nonprofit based in Miami and focused on bonefish and tarpon conservation - studied the two types of fish found in Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys since 2018.

They collected blood and tissue samples from 93 bonefish and tarpon in the area, and found that each one had an average of seven drugs in its system - including antidepressants, blood pressure medications, prostate treatment medications, antibiotics and pain relievers.

One fish even had a total of 17 different drugs in its tissues, the study found, and the researchers found pharmaceuticals in the bonefish prey - including crabs and shrimp.

These drugs can affect every aspect of fish life, including their feeding habits, sociability and migratory behavior - threatening the already diminishing bonefish population in the area.

While I subscribe to being tuned out to noise, I venture into the noise occasionally to find out what’s being presented. If I don’t know what’s going on, makes it harder to see what they are trying to divert attention away from.
