New England Patriots Have Incredible Day

I don't think Wayne's numbers are of concern either. Also he's a WR, so it's not even useful to compare the 2. It's pretty common for rookie WR's to take time to get a good relationship with the QB and learn an NFL playbook before they become dangerous. Defensive 1st rounders generally should be able to make an immediate impact. 27 catches ain't bad at all.

Peyton threw 27 ints I think. Point is, could Hughes be a complete failure? Yes. But it's way too early to tell, many players come in and take a little while to develop. Plus we do have 2 other guys at that position so it's not like they are relying on him to come in and take over right now anyway.

What value is there in comparing a QB to a DE? Seriously? They weren't relying on him to make a huge impact, but they were looking for a solid 3rd DE in the rotation and got almost nothing from him.

The point is that Hughes is most likely a failure. There are very few DE's that develop into stars after a rookie year as unproductive as Hughes had. Could he turn into a star? Yes. Will he? Not likely.

I don't think they need him to be a star. There are already 2 stars in that position. How much is he going to play if them 2 are healthy? Those guys are pro bowlers, is he going to take snaps away from them? No

In case you haven't noticed...both those guys are 31+ and we need to replace one or both in the next few years. They need Hughes to be a star, maybe not today, but that was the intent of picking him up in the first round.

Currently we need him to contribute when he's in the game. I believe Mathis' contract expires this season and they will not be able to adequately replace him with Hughes. 6 tackles in a season ain't cutting it for a #1 pick. That's the bottom line.

I agree but both guys are also studs at that position and no way will he take snaps from either of them right now and he does not have to be a great player yet. He will need to get better no doubt and they will rely on him more going forward and those guys age. I think they Colts will be able to sign Mathis to a long term deal next season. I sure hope so anyway.

Bottom line is that the Pats have placed relatively minimal risk on CJ and Haynesworth, and have made a name for themselves over the last decade by winning championships and a miracle play away from the best season in NFL history by making acquisitions and trades that would tank nearly any other franchise.

I do think Haynesworth will work in a 4-3 or any schemes where he doesn't play nose or draw the double team, he will get plenty of shots.

Justin, your inferiority complex about NWE is astounding.

Haynesworth will usually be the "end" on the same side as the blitzing linebacker, so his position in those situations basically amounts to DT in a 4-3.

Yep.

You mean the team that has not won a playoff game since 2007 AFCCG?

Great game tonight.

Defense has a lot of work to do.

Brady adjusted perfectly to the defense and the no-huddle and personnel changes were fantastic. Line depth is troublesome, but Solder and Connolly played awesome.

There was a defense?

Great game by the Pats' offense. Brady dancing on Manning's grave.
