New England Patriots Have Incredible Day

Haynesworth had one good year and that just happened to be the year his contract was up. Johnson is old and had stats that ranked him around 24 or so in receivers including 4 TDs I believe
Even if both do not pan out, NE didn't give up **** for them. Low risk, potential high reward.... brilliant.

How can the pats lose on this deal?

Draft picks are valued, it doesn't matter which round. If you give up a pick for a lazy DT and he has 20 tackles and 1 sack and is cut then it was a failure. Just like Warren Sapp said about Haynesworth "he is all bark no bite". And Johnson is just ok, he is a good player not great but he is so disruptive to a team with his reality shows, tweets and changing his name.

He won't disrupt the Pats. And neither will Haynesworth, in my opinion.

Haynesworth is certainly worth the risk of that pick, especially when they attain more picks so easily as it is.

Last 5 Colts first-round picks, excluding 2011:
Marlin Jackson
Joseph Addai
Anthony Gonzalez
Donald Brown
Jerry Hughes

Might need some sunglasses to look at that list of superstars.

It's been sad. The Colts initially built this powerhouse with the draft and haven't been able to draft good linemen for like 6 years, and have wasted a lot of #1 picks in that time frame as well. Addai and Brown are hard to judge because their line has been so bad, but the other 3 are bad first round picks.

What I can't understand is how the Colts have remained competitive with the Pats since they haven't drafted well and they never make big plays in free agency.

Peyton Manning. Quite simple.

We still don't know about Hughes, he has only had 1 season, give him time before you say it was a bad pick. Like I said about Addai he is great in doing what they ask, he could be the best pass blocking back in the league and one of the best catching the ball.

Time, effort, and space on a 53 man roster dont mean anything?

It is a low risk high potential reward. Its a smart trade for them and if he doesnt pan out, they dont lose that much at all. Its not like they are going to be paying him Redskin money and that may very well be a factor in him deciding to give some effort this time around.

There is nothing "smart" about the Haynesworth trade. Its a total shot in the dark. Maybe if they played a 4-3 D, but they dont

Hughes was a #1 pick that did nothing in his rookie year. That's all we have to go off. He may turn out good, but until he does a 180, we'll have to continue to say he sucks. He appeared in 12 games and had 6 tackles.

Really, because I'd say Haynesworth could still have some left in the tank, and he wouldn't be the first guy who sucked in Washington and was good elsewhere.

He won't be playing NT. Wilfork's presence will only help Haynesworth if they are both on the line.

Sucks? No. Has a lot to learn and a ton to prove? Yes. How many rookies come in and have great seasons? he could be a terrible bust but no way am I going to say that after one season.

How many defensive #1 picks get 6 tackles their first season (excluding guys that get injured)?

D-Linemen picked in top 50 of 2010 draft:

Suh = 48 tackles, 10 sacks
McCoy = 28 tackles, 3 sacks
Alualu = 38 tackles, 3.5 sacks
Graham = 13 tackles, 3 sacks
Pierre-Paul = 30 tackles, 4.5 sacks
Morgan = 5 tackles, 1.5 sacks (4 games)
Williams = 38 tackles
Odrick = Missed season
Hughes = 6 tackles (12 games)
Price = 3 tackles (5 games)
Misi = 41 tackles, 4.5 sacks
Troup = 23 tackles
Kindle = Missed season
Houston = 39 tackles, 5 sacks
Joseph = 8 tackles (6 games)

Hughes is among the least productive and he doesn't have any excuses.

I am glad the staff and front office has more patience than you. Mathis his first year had 17 tackles 3 sacks. Although different positions Wayne had 27 catches 0 TDs.

BTW, you didn't really tell the whole story with Mathis. This was his stat line:

Mathis - 17 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 3 FF, 1 PD, 1 FR
Huges - 6 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 FF, 0 PD, 0 FR

And Mathis was a 5th round pick. Who wouldn't have patience with a 5th round pick that put up those numbers?

You ignore Wayne's numbers. I guess you gave up on him and were ready to throw him under the bus also after 1 season right.

I don't think Wayne's numbers are of concern either. Also he's a WR, so it's not even useful to compare the 2. It's pretty common for rookie WR's to take time to get a good relationship with the QB and learn an NFL playbook before they become dangerous. Defensive 1st rounders generally should be able to make an immediate impact. 27 catches ain't bad at all.
