Watched the first two episodes. Thought they were pretty good. Supposedly it gets even better as the season goes along.

The Karate Kid has been my favorite movie since 1984. It ranks above The Godfather, Jaws, Empire Strikes Back, and any other classic masterpiece.
I watched this show on Wednesday and am now watching with my wife. I’m afraid if she doesn’t love it just as much as I do, I’ll have to leave her.

Also, I work with someone that was in the first movie. She was Elizabeth Shue’s best friend. We invited her to our viewing party at work on Wednesday. She politely declined due to embarrassment.
That was the only movie she was ever in, and is now very shy. That’s my “cool story, bro” about Cobra Kai.

Her best friend in the movie or best friend in real life?

That's really cool! Was she one of the friends that hung out with her in the movie? Was she the "she MUST be into fungus" friend?

I actually think him and William Zabka (Johnny) both look pretty good. Zabka looks older but is still in pretty good shape.

I think some of that is makeup. They were both on a morning talk show the other day and Zabka looked 10 years younger.

Watched the first two episodes and I like the lighter humor and character development so far. Johnny stuck in the 80s and Daniel living the good life. And some good one liners.

"You a customer here?"

"No, just some illegal I picked up this morning. He's helping me set up."

I laughed at that one. So far, so good.

Just binge watched it. How could they not make a Season 2 with the way that ended?

They did certainly leave it open, but I hope they don't make it lame just to keep it going. Always a risk of that.

One of the actors talked about what direction he was told they want to take it in should a second season happen, and it sounds like it could be incredible.

I think they could do one, maybe 2 more tops without ruining it.

Yep, there's only so much story there to tell before you just turn it into a soap opera with the characters from Karate Kid.

I wish some other old properties would learn this.

Episode 2 spoilers:

I love how gray the lines are. For example, Johnny didn't help the kind out because he was overcome with some strong sense of justice. He did it because they hit his car.

Agree. The way they left it open ended and the twists already added to the plot could make for a dandy Season 2. Reliving the events from the movie through Johnny's eyes was a good segue and added a level easy to adapt further. Especially with:

Bringing in Kreese right at the end. That has the potential to go in several different directions.

There is huge potential with Johnny's son and Daniel's daughter in either camp. Along with Johnny possibly trying to deprogram Miguel and win back his honor and soul.

Daniel's douchy side can be a good segue into the series. He had some moments of showing what a dick he could be.

Miguel's mom could be a very big impact on Season 2. Johnny's a guy with an eye for good looking women. They live next to each other. It's a potential plot tangent that could be explored.

Loved the grandma. She added a comic relief level that helped move things along.

I can almost see Elisabeth Shue making an appearance somehow. You don't have an in depth conversation like Johnny and Daniel did without some follow up or closure.

They need to somehow include Bananarama and Joe Esposito in Season 2 though. I mean, come on, they already included Commuter and a bunch of 80s hair bands. That part cracked me up with the music scene from the dojo.

"And get some Guns and Roses or something."

"What's Guns and Roses?"

"I'm going to pretend you didn't say that..."

I agree with the poster from earlier that William Zabka killed it. Ralph Maccchio also did exceptional in his role. Actually, the only character I thought was distracting was the idiot cousin. Kind of a necessary addition to the cast with the events in the later episodes, but he was just way over the top.

I halfway expected a touchy-feely social justice extravaganza, but it almost seems like they are going out of their way to insult that concept along with insulting the concept of "protect our children by wrapping them in bubble wrap" society we've become. It has some laughs and plot angles that make it enjoyable but without entirely being a remake of the original film. However, there is enough nostalgia and chuckles for those who grew up trying that Crane Technique every chance they got and loved the first film.

The daughter actually mentioned having her Danielle make his famous BananaRama pancakes for breakfast.
