2012 Oneida HS grad Doug Manning will be a walk-on for the Vols and is set to join the team after spring practice. A standout in soccer, Manning went out for football his senior year and made the 2A all-state team.

Brewster, who coached Manning during his one year of football at Oneida and is now an assistant coach at Grace Christian Academy, believes his former player has a shot. "Doug’s potential is immeasurable," Brewster said. "He is a difference-maker on the football field. Without him, we wouldn’t have made it to the third round of the playoffs."

Brewster said a member of the UT staff he spoke with told him that Manning has an SEC-caliber leg. "When he gets his mechanics corrected, he will be scary good," Brewster said. "He has the work ethic, character and natural ability to be very successful."

Anyone have his height and weight? Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. I hope he finds a spot on the team and has a great career.

I get the feeling the coaches have seen some tape of our kickers. How many coming in this year? 3?

Hope it doesn't take him as long to get his 'mechanicals' corrected as it's taking Palardy.

getting his mechanics corrected, we already have two kickers who need work on that. we don't even have a kicking coach, though james wilhoit is available.

Wilhoit shot himself in the foot with that youtube video where he badmouths the Wilson football....that we use..and Cincinnati uses. Adidas would not like us hiring James....it all comes back to the $$$

As evidenced by your posts in the last few days, anything CBJ does that you would have done differently (which seems to be everything) strikes you as odd.

Glad you're not the coach.

Please tell me you're joking! He's a kicker. Who cares how tall he is or how much he weighs?

With as many kickers as we're gonna have, the odds are one has to be able to make FGs

However, 40s are important for our kickers. You may think I am kidding but if someone gets a kick blocked (Seems to be a big issue) we need to make sure we can chase the down people trying to return blocks from behind... :p
