2012 Oneida HS grad Doug Manning will be a walk-on for the Vols and is set to join the team after spring practice. A standout in soccer, Manning went out for football his senior year and made the 2A all-state team.

Brewster, who coached Manning during his one year of football at Oneida and is now an assistant coach at Grace Christian Academy, believes his former player has a shot. "Doug’s potential is immeasurable," Brewster said. "He is a difference-maker on the football field. Without him, we wouldn’t have made it to the third round of the playoffs."

Brewster said a member of the UT staff he spoke with told him that Manning has an SEC-caliber leg. "When he gets his mechanics corrected, he will be scary good," Brewster said. "He has the work ethic, character and natural ability to be very successful."

I graduated a few years before this kid, never played with him, but saw him play several times. The kid can kick. And even more, he only has one year of football under his belt. I saw him hit 50 yarders in warm ups all day long (sadly we rarely kick field goals really.) but, the difference is he wasn't raised from the ground up on football, he doesn't feel the same pressures that those of us grew up on.

There was an article a few months ago joking about nick saban finding a soccer player in one of the streets of birmingham and telling him to grow up to kick between the posts and he'll pay his way to college. That's like how this kid is. If he gets a shot he'll be better than what we've had right now at least.

If you remember, Palardy has numerous YouTube videos of him hitting 60 yarders in warm-ups and kicking kickoffs well out of the back of the endzone. Unfortunately, that hasn't translated to much on the field in college. Hopefully out of the plethora of scholarship and walk on kickers CBJ has to pick from, someone will be able to give us at least a little hope of making a FG longer that 30 yards.

I may be mistaken but didnt Mr. Reivez (sorry if spelled wrong) say that he would be more than willing to spend some time w/ our kickers the past couple of years but go shot down by dooly. I dont know if that would be against the rules by any means but if we dont have a kicking coach I cant see how a proven kicker from our past helping our current kickers can hurt at all. Someone should give him a call and ask if the offer still stands and tell him we have 7 kickers who all could use some help.

I've seen Manning live, too. He has a big leg with accuracy, but kicking without the tee is the key. If nothing else, the kid has pretty good potential.

IDC if we get 5 more kickers as long as one of them can kick a FG longer than 25 yards, Kickoff mid endzone and consistently kick extra points...

It's these pesky rules that the NCAA comes up with. Can you believe that our wealthy donors aren't allowed to let players 'borrow' their nice cars either? They're more than willing to hand over the keys.

Dooley screwed up when he didn't sign Ben Ogle out of Greeneville High School last year! In consideration it was a Dooley thing! This kid was the best kicker in TN, I personally seen him kick a 50 yarder against a conference team. I think he ended up at Carson Newman! Jones would have been all over this in-state kid!

Not sure if Carson Newman's kicker would be the answer to our problems.

I got to see both Ben Ogle and Chris Harris kick at Franklin County during the 2011 season. I thought both were better than George Bullock who Dooley gave the scholly that year.

Hopefully, ole Dooley was right...........BWAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

I do remember Palardy doing that. But like I said, this kid has played organized football for a year. Palardy I would wager played most of his life (like a lot of us did). He literally just one day said "I'd like to try football" and ended out being one of the better kickers our schools had. The kid is natural at it, give him some good coaching and he'll be very serviceable.

I hope you're right, even if not about Manning but any of the kids that are trying to kick. One of them needs to step up and show some consistency, strength and accuracy.

Well, we've got what. 9 now counting walk ons? Surely ONE of them can do it. From what I've read though we should have bench sitting kickers who are good enough to start at other DI schools, and even some SEC schools apparently (like the kid we just got from Temple)

Too bad Bray's gone....I remember the TV anouncer saying that one of his punts was his best play of the game last year? Not too long ago the kicking game was always a strong point in Tennessee football.....like everything else....my how things have changed
still.........Go Vowels

At first thought I'd agree....then I remember a touchdown saving tackle made by a kicker aginst fl st in NC game.

That was David leaverton who stuck Peter Warrick, a damn good and shifty athlete, like a voodoo doll. I mean shazam! Pow! Kablooey! All my bros were calling me saying.. Did you see our punter stick that heisman finalist? Good times.

Man I love how people read stuff and think its true. Dooley didn't shoot anyone down from coming and helping when offered. The NCAA doesn't allow it. But yet the story at the diner counter in small town TN is that Dooley said no cause he's a prick. Smh
