We have six kickers...Bullock, Palardy, Darr, Ryan Ault, Gantz and Manning. If a soccer game breaks out, we gonna be loaded!

Brodus? (Broadus)?

edit ... I see somebody beat me to it. Geez, don't expect me to read an entire thread!

Good point...we put him on scholly for this semester! Seven kickers! We gonna need more goalposts....(not that any of them use them)

Eventually SOMEBODY is gonna emerge who can flat get the job done.

I love competition. :good!:

At this point I'll take all the kickers we can get that want to walk on. We couldn't play any type of field position game because we were so horrible.

Forgot Derrek Brodus, the left footed frat boy to whom we just gave a scholly. The soccer comment is duly noted.

However, 40s are important for our kickers. You may think I am kidding but if someone gets a kick blocked (Seems to be a big issue) we need to make sure we can chase the down people trying to return blocks from behind... :p

:lolabove:

If we're relying on the kicker to be the one chasing them down, we're screwed anyway.

getting his mechanics corrected, we already have two kickers who need work on that. we don't even have a kicking coach, though james wilhoit is available.

It doesn't matter if he's available. If Wilhoit wants to be a CFB coach he needs to learn how to be a Special Teams coach. Otherwise he's worthless as a coach on staff.

Just don't understand why people don't understand that there is a limit on the # of coaches a team can have. Just a "kicking coach" is not worth wasting one of those spots on.

Boy thats probably not how the staff is thinking when they're evaluating our many, many kickers. Probably focusing on silly things like leg strength, accuracy, you know odd things like that. But hey, if you're right, put a clock on Palardy for both his 40 and shuttle times given the worm burners he's apt to kick.

On the other hand, if you were being sarcastic here, which I completely leave open as a possibility, then I retract my smart ass comments and commend you on a pretty funny post.

Edit: ok, I get it now. Sarcasm. Just now noticed the emoticon at the end

2012 Oneida HS grad Doug Manning will be a walk-on for the Vols and is set to join the team after spring practice. A standout in soccer, Manning went out for football his senior year and made the 2A all-state team.

Brewster, who coached Manning during his one year of football at Oneida and is now an assistant coach at Grace Christian Academy, believes his former player has a shot. "DougÂ’s potential is immeasurable," Brewster said. "He is a difference-maker on the football field. Without him, we wouldnÂ’t have made it to the third round of the playoffs."

Brewster said a member of the UT staff he spoke with told him that Manning has an SEC-caliber leg. "When he gets his mechanics corrected, he will be scary good," Brewster said. "He has the work ethic, character and natural ability to be very successful."

With a name like MANNING, he's already a beast. Just hope this MANNING can beat the Gators.

Played HS football with this kid. Has a great leg, hope he gets a chance. Like coach brew said, with a little work on mechanics, he could be a good asset to the team and a good xp kicker. Get 'em Doug #OneidaPride

I graduated a few years before this kid, never played with him, but saw him play several times. The kid can kick. And even more, he only has one year of football under his belt. I saw him hit 50 yarders in warm ups all day long (sadly we rarely kick field goals really.) but, the difference is he wasn't raised from the ground up on football, he doesn't feel the same pressures that those of us grew up on.

There was an article a few months ago joking about nick saban finding a soccer player in one of the streets of birmingham and telling him to grow up to kick between the posts and he'll pay his way to college. That's like how this kid is. If he gets a shot he'll be better than what we've had right now at least.

And his last name is Manning

Forget that. The coach from UT mentioned getting his mechanics right. This implies our kickers for the first time have a bona fide coach who focuses on kicking mechanics. Except for our OL Pittman (?) last season who did this part time, our kickers have not had a coach that gave them attention. They worked out on their own. So maybe all three kickers will finally start producing now.

Not necessarily. Darr played LB or DB in high school and actually looks it. Kid is 6-1 and 213lbs. I think he actually did have in on a few tackles last season.

Great. Another kicker

Who cares if he is a walk-on. I'm sure you have seen our kicking game in the past couple years. I for one am happy we will have that much competition at the position for a change. It doesn't cost us anything for them to walk-on.

Maybe so, but I can promise you that when coaches are recruiting kickers they don't look at their D stats. They're only interested in how they kick or punt.
