Landon Young needs to be on defense. Forced a fumble from our QB last year and about wanted to tackle our RB this week.

But watching this UK defense, they legit look like they don't even know how to line up. I've never seen a team struggle with simply figuring out where to stand before the snap to this extent.

They weren't just last in conference, though, at the end of the regular season they were almost dead last in everything in the country among the 128 teams at the FBS level:


125th in total yards offense
124th in average total offense per game
117th in passing TDs
113th in passing yards per game
113th yards per completion
115th in completion percentage
120th in rushing yards per game
127th in rushing TDs
127th in points scored per game
91st in sacks allowed per game
81st in interceptions thrown
126th in first downs gained
112th in tackles for losses allowed
122nd in third down conversions
102nd in 4th down conversions
105th worst red zone offense
And 117th worst in time of possession per game

(In hindsight, it's kind of impressive that their defense and its numbers were so good because it was pretty much on the field for 40 of 60 minutes each game.)


So UK's defense is close to being that bad in the country across the board?

New Mexico St is garbage on defense, maybe as bad as us, but at least we're making the correct play calls.

It still has to be better than Indiana's "Defense? Is that that the few minutes you let the other team score so that your offense can go back on the field?" defense they've been lining up the last few years...right?

Yeah, I hadn't looked at the specific stats, just yards per game. It was 3rd or 4th from last out of all FBS for yards per game (mizzou). So far we're like 20th from last or something in total yards given up per game.

UK has put up 540 yards with the backup QB and and the #4 RB.

If New Mexico St wasn't so terrible I might be happy.
