The Thunder are the only pro team in Oklahoma. Nashville already has the Preds and I doubt the NHL would award OKC with a hockey team since them already have the NBA. Likewise, we already have hockey with an NBA team near by in Memphis plus the Titans take away sports dollars too.
On the one hand, hockey fans are a different demographic than NBA fans. But on the other hand, you don't have enough of that other demographic in Nashville to support a team. You barely have enough for hockey, to be honest.
If this is a hustle (hypothetically speaking), what is the deal? Those were some bold statements made in that press conference. The local officials and the state would have to bring in new infrastructure, find a way to finance it, and all of that. That is just the first hurdle. Then the notion that this theme park is gonna bring in a bazillion jobs... Sounds too good to be true.
During these economic times, are there many corporations out there still willing to use SG&A money on box seats? Aren't most companies trying to be more responsible? Or at least they should be more responsible? I'm just asking... I really don't know. I just can't see how most companies can continue to fund this stuff.NBA seats are filled mainly with corp boxes and the wealthy people. Place it in Spring Hill and alot of business will buy boxes. Hockey doesn't have the draw.

Why would they announce it then?

New projects and jobs always get proposed and for the most part, especially in this economy, they can float around for years and years without ever taking off. They need their funding first and foremost.....and then it's still a long shot before this thing ever breaks ground.

we got rid of corporate boxes for our field locations about 7 years ago..
Now if regional sales office wants a box, they go through a broker for specific event or date...instead of having it for the entire season
This was done more for PR reasons and not being able to track it than for how often it would be used.
On a side note, I believe this will happen in some form by some developement team.
There is too much money moving into the Williamson county area and Spring Hill is located between too many larger cities that have no real amusement parks. The fact that Opryland turned a profit every year will also entice backers.
It may not happen with this team but I suspect Opryland will be coming back. They renewed the rights to the name last year and are already kicking around ideas. OpryMills is not coming back.
