New Nashville Theme Park - Festival Tennessee

The Thunder are the only pro team in Oklahoma. Nashville already has the Preds and I doubt the NHL would award OKC with a hockey team since them already have the NBA. Likewise, we already have hockey with an NBA team near by in Memphis plus the Titans take away sports dollars too.

On the one hand, hockey fans are a different demographic than NBA fans. But on the other hand, you don't have enough of that other demographic in Nashville to support a team. You barely have enough for hockey, to be honest.

If this is a hustle (hypothetically speaking), what is the deal? Those were some bold statements made in that press conference. The local officials and the state would have to bring in new infrastructure, find a way to finance it, and all of that. That is just the first hurdle. Then the notion that this theme park is gonna bring in a bazillion jobs... Sounds too good to be true.

Fact is the city rezoned the area to fit a water park. I do think in the end it will involve some tax dollars but it does appear to be a go. Opryland was always making money. The only reason it was shut down was due to running out of land and not knowing how to handle it. Once the Nashville Stars other routes are finished there would be a train they could take all the way from Donelson to Spring Hill. This means people staying at Opryland could take a short train ride down there. I believe we will get something. Will it be more Beech Bend style than Disney World? Probably. But it could grow over time into something more like Knotts Berry Farms.

NBA seats are filled mainly with corp boxes and the wealthy people. Place it in Spring Hill and alot of business will buy boxes. Hockey doesn't have the draw.

During these economic times, are there many corporations out there still willing to use SG&A money on box seats? Aren't most companies trying to be more responsible? Or at least they should be more responsible? I'm just asking... I really don't know. I just can't see how most companies can continue to fund this stuff.

To honest your question honestly I will say no. They are being more discrete about it. But that's it. Most people that are placed in boxes are either high level sales reps or high level execs or someone you are trying to close a deal with. All 3 still revolve around shaking hands and getting drunk.

This theme park will never happen. I want it too but I just don't see it happening.

Why would they announce it then?

New projects and jobs always get proposed and for the most part, especially in this economy, they can float around for years and years without ever taking off. They need their funding first and foremost.....and then it's still a long shot before this thing ever breaks ground.

we got rid of corporate boxes for our field locations about 7 years ago..
Now if regional sales office wants a box, they go through a broker for specific event or date...instead of having it for the entire season

I keep waiting for Six Flags to buy Dollywood, guess they haven't made an offer she can't refuse.
I believe it is hers in name only.

just looked and it is co owned by the Herschend Entertainment who apparently owns Branson Mo.

That's one example....I can think of about 10 jobs in the past couple years that we have priced and still waiting on financing from the client. Only 1 is promising, but we hear the same thing every few months that they almost have it all squared away. The others have been buried.

Apparently they are planning to move the Grand Ole Opry to Spring Hill too. This story just keeps on giving. :)

This was done more for PR reasons and not being able to track it than for how often it would be used.

On a side note, I believe this will happen in some form by some developement team.

There is too much money moving into the Williamson county area and Spring Hill is located between too many larger cities that have no real amusement parks. The fact that Opryland turned a profit every year will also entice backers.

It may not happen with this team but I suspect Opryland will be coming back. They renewed the rights to the name last year and are already kicking around ideas. OpryMills is not coming back.

Will never happen. Neither Spring Hill or Maury County will ever see a development of this size and type.

OpryMills IS coming back, and you can expect to see the beginning phases of construction within the next 6 months, likely before that.

I have seen the construction bid solicitations going out. They are trying to get it going again.
