NEW Neyland Renderings

Idk there's some stadiums that have buildings in the distance and it adds to the look so I'll just have to wait and see
Looks like the hotel will be immediately adjacent to the stadium......not in the distance. That's the reason I don't ike it.

Nothing should be built adjacent to the stadium that's higher than the top of the stadium.

I bet some of you got sentimental over the JFG sign being taken down ....

On the bright side, WBIR reported that the project will take an estimated 5 years to complete. Which means we can expect to see the finished product some time in 2033.

That should give you guys plenty of time to think of even more things to complain about .... like having your view of the picturesque Vestal neighborhood obstructed across the river, where so many drug deals have been successfully transacted over the years.

I definitely get where you're coming from. I will say this is pretty cool backdrop. Not sure what we're doing will have the same effect though.

It also irks me that they're spending all this money on development AROUND the stadium before actually addressing what can be improved WITH the stadium first! Can we please do that before we start worrying about hotels, restaurants, and mini malls??

UT clearly doesn’t care about the poors on the east side.

I like that they are adding food options near the stadium. Back in the late 80s and early 90s when I was able to go to more games, I’d find a place on the strip to grab a bite. Seems like a lot of those places are disappearing now. Don’t want us to get like the lamecocks in Columbia, where there is almost NO option for food if you’re not tailgating.

One thing is for sure, everything changes. You may not like it, but it will change one way or another.

🤷🏻‍♂️
And I am absolutely CERTAIN that those food options will be affordable and that the vendors will not price gouge people already spending a small fortune to park and attend the game 🙄

Pretty Darn Funny...

Not necessarily a bad idea IMHO. I would go one step further and take the Buc-ees approach. Make it the world’s LARGEST Waffle House. And an added bonus, you can pitch the idea that after attending a Vols win; you can go to Waffle House and watch the Saturday Night Fights 😉

Everyone is missing the most obvious drawback of this plan. It will become much more laborious to get those goalposts down to their final aquatic resting place 😂

Winner Winner Chicken dinner. Unless all funds escrowed and bonds issued for entire project and economic conditions stay stable , renderings are to put it "diplomatically"---fluid
And they figure the budget is shot and they start looking for value engineering options

Yeah, because a 5 year long construction site is the answer to solving crime.

Sentimental is the word you’re going with? It’s ugly to me. I don’t understand the hotel decision. Other than that, I don’t really care.

The edit part is I could argue to argue, but that’s really all I care about.

I understand your position also but most of those downtown Seattle buildings are several blocks north of the stadium and if my memory is correct the closest is more than 100 yards away.

That is true. I'm not really sure how I feel about it at the moment

Oh I won't argue about it needing improving, I'm just ... well, let's call it "amused" ... by how it's all being replaced with expensive shops and point-of-sale opportunities. Squeeze that money out of people. All very inorganic. But that's a lot of the modern sport now.

The building blocking the river part though, that's heinous - albeit unsurprising. I'll never question the human ability to slap price tags on things that are priceless.
it is apart of modern sports now, not just in college. I was up in Foxboro a few years back and got to visit Gillette Stadium. It also has an entertainment district tied to it. It was absolutely gorgeous.

I graduated from UT in 1996, but worked in the First Tennessee building on 800 S. Gay St. from 2003-2006. So, I was on Cumberland a lot. There was one location that was Mike and Willy's, Liquid, Bar Knoxville .... The changes on Cumberland were constant. You would get used to having one place around .... and poof, it was gone.

I think the closing of the O'Charley's Sports Grille is when Cumberland Avenue really started to die. I think that 2004-ish.
Yep, good memories! I remember all these places, although I don’t think I ever went to Mike and Willy’s. I’m almost positive O’Charley’s closed in 2005 or 2006, as I remember it being my junior year. Do you remember a place called New Amsterdam by chance?
