It's tacky as hell, especially considering it'll be a permanent part of the skyline once it's built, and it'll be visible from almost every seat save those on the east lower deck. And it's close in the drawings too, close enough that it'll effectively become part of the stadium experience once complete. This isn't some office building off in the distance, it's right next to the stadium. But of course, no one's supposed to care because "change is good."

And just to be clear, this is what I mean by "permanent part of the skyline." The current Neyland Stadium experience is isolated - when you're in Neyland today, there is nothing else of the outside world that pierces the bubble of being inside the stadium. You just have blue skies and a bit of the mountains peeking over the end if you're in the upper levels. For four hours, the world outside is irrelevant.

But once the hotel is built, it'll be a permanent addition and more or less part of the stadium experience. You'll probably be able to see it from the lower decks, too, protruding above the visitor sections in the endzone. We can guess it has to be high enough to match the press boxes, because they sure as hell aren't building that thing unless they can sell the "see the game from the condo/hotel" experience to people. I imagine they'll avoid showing many renders from inside the stadium.

Agree. IMO it'll be an eyesore and a distraction to the best looking stadium in football.

A lot of people are seeing the success of the Battery in Atlanta and how much money it generates for the Braves.

One thing I've learned is to be a little skeptical of the "artist renderings" of construction projects in their early stages. They don't always resemble the finished product.
Winner Winner Chicken dinner. Unless all funds escrowed and bonds issued for entire project and economic conditions stay stable , renderings are to put it "diplomatically"---fluid

It also irks me that they're spending all this money on development AROUND the stadium before actually addressing what can be improved WITH the stadium first! Can we please do that before we start worrying about hotels, restaurants, and mini malls??

And it looks like the Parking Garage will STAY...and everything is built On-Top...which is GREAT news...and LOOK at ALL the NEW area for The Vol Navy to Dock and walk over!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong - - The navy parks for free. What I see is "slots" for boats in the pics. If so then they found another way to charge.

The edition of the skyboxes several years ago already took care of most of the mountain view. IOW... it's already ruined, so may as well kill it off. Chasing that dollar will never stop.

So what about G10 parking? If it's gone then everyone else gets pushed back like this year. I'm already pissed about that.
Looks like it will be demolished and reconstructed with the project. I am not sure what they plan to do about parking during construction though.

It changed it, definitely, but at least the skyboxes were a part of the stadium proper. They're contained in the stadium. This is a private commercial entity, and it'll be a permanent eyesore as JC Higgins wrote above, and from the renders it'll be almost as tall as the top of the skyboxes. It's one step removed from having a giant advertising billboard in the same place. And I get that some people don't care - not saying you do or don't, but some - but having a hotel / apartment complex attached to the stadium (or anything that's commercial or private) will permanently change both the vibe of the stadium and what gameday means at Tennessee. And it'll be a permanent, visible change. Neyland will feel more and more like a Las Vegas casino/hotel. That probably tickles some folks just fine. I figured that out ages ago. I don't harbor any illusions about how college athletics got here, or where it's going to end up.

Fantastic idea, but I really hope that this rendering is nothing close to the final design. They should focus on improving the relationship between the stadium and the Tennessee River/Vol Navy and limit the height so as not to compromise the profile of the stadium itself. I hate the idea of a hotel looming up over the stadium. A good case study for the negative impact of a nearby hotel on great stadium is Camden Yards in Baltimore. Look at photos before/after they built a 20 story Hilton right next to it. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

The proposed development include three major components:

  • Entertainment District: Nearly 175K Square Feet. Managed by Brick + Bev, who has experience with a multitude of entertainment districts across the country. (Xfinity Live, KC Live, Ballpark Village Live, Live by Loews, Texas Live, and Live at The Battery, among others.)
  • Parking: Full replacement of G10; additional parking will be added to support the entertainment district and condotel needs (specifically not reducing student parking stalls). The university would identify alternative parking solutions for use if G10 is temporarily offline.
  • Condotel: Full-service Hotel, Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, Pool & Terrace, Conference Center, Lounges, Fitness Center, Hotel Spa—Hartland Hotel Group will develop this aspect of the project. The group developed the Hotel Figueroa, located next to LA Live. It would feature 240 rooms and 60 luxury condos.
Parking is a huge deal. It is a commuter school campus that has always been criminally short on parking spaces. Any development should increase student parking spaces, and not just provide new spaces needed for the development.
