New PA system next season

Game day production in the stadium is pretty much terrible all the way around. Can’t hear the PA, there’s no amplification of the band at halftime or during the game, Sterl plays waayyyyyyy too much they let it play too long. Minimal replays. The”light show” has been decent although I find it worthless. There’s a lot of stuff the band used to play in between plays that was great and fans got into. Now it’s dance music that a majority of the people in my section don’t care for. It doesn’t get the crowd pumped like they think it does.
Agreed on the too much of Sterl. I am happy he gets to be a part of the gameday experience, but the band has lost so much airtime.

I think the replays on offense arent there duebto the speed we play.

About the only thing I've heard over our current sound system the last few years is..."IT'S THIRD DOWWWWWNNNNN"! Gotta admit...not much of a fan of that. I just like doing different things than other stadiums do. And my experience is most stadiums do something similar on 3rd down. Maybe I'm the only one...It would be nice to hear the officials too.
Haha
I should have read the entire thread before responding

You are not alone🤓

The Sterl stuff is just awful at football games. I know I'm 50 and it's not aimed at me, but it comes off like a dude in a 1994 Toyota Corolla pulled up next to you at a stop light trying to impress you with blown out speakers.

Heupel himself has issues with replays in the stadium, he's said as much. Particularly on ones where it's close, goes the other way, or creates questions that will slow down the offense. I can't remember which game it was, but he was irate that a replay was shown in the stadium. (Might have been A&M when we stuck them at the 1/2 yard line on the punt)

Beyond that, agreed about Sterl. Like you, I'm glad he gets a piece of the gameday experience and is a part of athletics - but I feel like they are really overdoing it. Was at a couple hoops games this season and it was him screaming nonstop for 5 minutes. The only thing it seemed to do is get people wincing or laughing at the absurdity of it.

Don't get me wrong, all for the music and the hype, but there needs to be a balance found.

The sound sound system has been an embarrassment for years. You can’t hear the refs and the music (though it’s not my genre) is distorted.

I’m happy the admin is addressing the needs as it is much needed.

"MUSIC" Used to be strictly from the Pride Of the Southland Band; which is the way it should be. When the RACKET interferes with the actual GAME sounds, you are overrun with Stupidity. But that's in everything these days. I'm here for the Football, that's all. The General would raise all kinds of hell......

Grateful for listening to Bobby Denton, John Ward, etc. I suppose nothing stays the same.

Bobby's voice was memorable; during most of my time, it was a wild mix of well seasoned age, whiskey, and pep. Yes he was a bit sloppy at times in the later years, but he was unique and that meant a lot. I loved imitiating his voice whenever I was on a PA system - the way he chewed through "University of Tennessee" was so much fun to say And "THIRD AND THE RIVER" was the absolute best. All I could ever picture was a mildly inebriated gentleman up in the booth having the time of his life.

Moments like that don't happen now. It's all too produced and too commercial to have any character. They just want us to shut up and listen to AC/DC or whatever's on the CD - and that damnable Joker song which EVERY STADIUM plays - and buy some more overpriced concessions.

I wonder if they will sell the pee troughs like they did the Stokley Seats. Guessing some folks might be sentimental.

If there is one thing I am not sentimental over Neyland about, it's those damned troughs LOL.

Jeesh, the stench by the 3rd quarter.

The speakers in the North endzone have not consistently worked in the last 10 years. And with the music, they have been playing, I am fine with that. Also, the 3rd down noise has to go. Vols face too many 3rd downs (normally unsuccessfully, I might add) so that noise goes off the entire game.

i think i heard a lot more band portions between plays this year than i did the past year (or two?) when Sterl started. much welcomed

is it Jarnigan that's the PA announcer for both football and basketball? he really loves the number "3" for as loud as he is on third down and when we hit a 3

While i agree with your overall sentiment...here for the football is a stretch, if the band is important to you. 🤓

I love the entire pagentry of going to a game. The pre game activities as well as what happens during the 3-4 hours inside the stadium. Cheerleaders, band, dance team, mascot, running through the T, Pay These Prices and Please Pay No More!! Ok...the last one is gone but the rest of it makes the experience worth going to, even when the team doesnt meet expectations

At least IMO

Pretty sure that is called 'Cool Beans'.

That’s funny, cuz that’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. Especially before they tore up the tailgating lot next door.

Yeah. It’s amazing the amount of pushback I receive about music Vs band. The younger folks tell me to “get with the times@ and it’s about the players.
