New signee

Really happy with getting her don't know why anyone would be upset with us taking her on. She fulfills a role we needed to fill and is only a one year player. She has gotten better every year she has played. I look for about 10 minutes a game from her may not score but 3 or 4 points and same in rebounds, but it gives our other bigs a break and if she would have some games like West Va 18 and 14 or Notre Dame 8 and 6 that would be terrific.

Yes, Pat won a national championship with one starting at point guard.
Yes, but Shannon Bobbit was also considered the second-best player in New York City during her high school days, was a division 1 recruit who decided to go to a JUCO and then became a Juco College Player of the Year leading her team to a championship. Are there some similarities that i am missing other than JUCO player?

Also had another guard on those teams from juco that was a huge contributor. Alberta Auguste was a very good player for that team. This player has already played a season at Power five so she know what it is like. Good contributor for 17 minutes a game 4.7 and 6.2

I am not suggesting that she will start but i was responding to the total dismissiveness of the poster to our new signee and to junior college players in general. Pat had another Jr college player in that same Era that wasn't as ballyhooed as Bobbit but did contribute. If we get 5 or 6 rebounds a game from a bench player like our signee did in the ACC, that would be a significant contribution

I don't think anybody is saying she is going to be a Shannon Bobbit type contributor. If she puts up the same stats she put up at Pitt 46 percent from the field and 65 from the free throw line we can use her as a sub. She doesn't have to be a go to player just someone that can come in and make a few plays while starter gets their time on the bench.

Bro.. she shot 57% and 47.9% from the FT line in Juco.. lmao

These new coaches are throwing **** at the wall and hoping for something to stick.. The whole staff is over their head.

Against any real competition in Juco -- she didnt score! 0 points against Wabash Valley, 1 and 2 points against Butler, 5pts against Hutchinson.

6 pts against Gulf Coast, 2 pts against Shelton State, 2 pts against a really bad Santa Fe, 2 pts against a really bad Hillsborough team
Imagine thinking what someone did in junior college two years ago is more relevant to what they would do here than their actual stats at a P5 school last year. The dumb is strong with this one.

I was trying to understand this hysterical reaction to a depth signing--which also includes ones role as a practice player and the narrow focus on her Juco years while ignoring her PItt states.

So, it comes down to a chance to proclaim that the "whole staff is in over their collective head."

You had to wait for a while for this one didn't ya? Cause Samara Spencer, Alyssa Latham, Lazaria Spearman and Ruby Whitehorn, and keeping Jewell Spear, all looked pretty impressive. But it all comes down to the 15th player on the roster right. That is the critical tell!!!

The player that CKC is getting a 5th year senior who had a solid enough season at PItt. They are not recruiting the 18 year JUCO player who had just arrived from Spain.

Ayodele started out at the junior college level, playing her first season with Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa, Fla. in 2021-22. She appeared in all 32 games, starting 31 and scored 13.6 points per game, while shooting 54.5% from the field. She guided Eastern Florida State to a 28-5 record and all the way to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament Quarterfinals, where they would lose in overtime to Jones College.

She then transferred to Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla. for the 2022-23 season. She played in all 30 games, starting all but three fo them and was first on the team with 14.1 points per game and 53.3% field goal shooting. Ayodele played a large role for her team that season, guiding them to a 25-5 overall record and an 8-1 record in conference, before a heartbreaking loss to her former squad, Eastern Florida State, ended their season in the conference semifinals.

Her juco stats are not that bad over 50 percent from the field. Averaged 14 a game. Has improved since then as a free throw shooter which happens as you advance in your career.

Alberte Aguste Was Pat's first JUCO player recruited. A little bit about Alberte: She was also first-team all-state, NJCAA All-American and Kodak All-American. To get there, she averaged 27.3 point per game and third in the nation with 5.0 steals per outing. Those type of stats can sometimes translate to D-1 and the SEC, but Alberte was very much a role player most of the season she was at Tennessee who had some sparkling moments near the end of the season due to team circumstances and injury to players ahead of her at her position.

She was the other starting guard and her defense and rebounding were crucial to the title run. If I recall, that starting line-up was CP3, Sid Spencer, Anosiki, Bobbitt and Auguste.

Technically, AA could be classified as a role player but her role was pretty substantial.

This thread has been a blast reading.....The opinions are so varied...Who is right or wrong? Time will tell...
Just imagine Josey Wales saying, "are you going to pull those pistols or are you going to whistle Rocky Top?"

Great film. Had not realized before how slow Josey pulled those guns from his holster. Those Union boys had terrible reflexes.

I'm thinking that it was Hornbuckle that was injured.

Oh Crap!!! Totally brain freeze on my part. Yes, Lex was the starter and Auguste was the the 6th man. I now have no trust in my feeble memory but I think Lex's wrist injury happened the season before when she was the teams main PG. She went down and Zolman and CP3 split the duties but there were defensive deficiencies in that line-up that could not be overcome. Lex had surgery and made it back for the NCAA tournament but was limited.

I think (emphasis on think) Hornnbuckle was healthy through the two championship seasons.

Alexis wrist injury may have been 2006, but she was the starter on the national championship teams. If I remember right, there was a missed Nicki Anosike shot and a Hornbuckle putback that won a pretty big game somewhere along that time frame that was a pretty big deal. May have been against LSU. I would have to look it up.

The 2008 championship team started Parker, Anosike, Bobbitt, Hornbuckle and Auguste. Bjorklund had been a starter, but her 3 point shot went South on her toward the end of the season and she was swapped out for the defensive skill of Auguste. I believe Auguste was quoted as telling Pat Summitt during the championship when tasked with guarding Wiggins, (who idiot media had been claiming would go first in the draft over Parker if they won the championship) that she would stay on her to the locker room if she needed to.

Ahhh, now that was fun to sit back and recall.

Certainly not going to get the opportunities on offense when you have players like Parker and Spencer on the team. As I remember though Auguste was an efficient scorer even if she didn't take that many shots. She could defend with the best of them.

Upon further review, you are right that Auguste did become a starter in the 2007-2008 season. The prior 2006-2007 championship was where Sidney Spencer played a big role. I forget that she graduated and Angie took her slot for a while.

Now we have clarity, thanks.

Caldwell has an affinity for ACC transfers this off season.
Or, more ACC players have an affinity to transfer this season.

Seriously, imagine if you're an ACC player who has flying anxieties, or who is prone to physical symptoms from long flights. Those west coast in-conference trips would be torture.

As Tony said in a recent postgame, "the rich just get richer" with each change. Coincidence, I'm sure.

It does not even have to be anxiety related. Few will get excited about multiple cross country trips during an academic year. The emergence of these coast-to-coast mega-conferences is one of the most objectionable aspects of this brave new world of college athletics. It is all so $ driven, with no regard for athletes or traveling fans.

My God, that defensive unit with Bobbitt choking the opposing teams point guard with super human lateral quickness, Hornbuckle and Auguste doing with length and athleticism, Anosiki with her speed and power, and CP3 just being a shot blocking monster.

That team is on the greatest of all-time shortlist.

Forward is about desire and athelticism. Look at players like Anriel Howard and Aneesah Morrow. They more than held/hold their own at the forward spot in the SEC.

If she can come in and bring energy on the glass and on defense she will be an asset.
I throw out one additional name: Nina Davis. Davis played forward for Baylor, scoring over 2,000 points and pulling down over 1,000 rebound, while standing at 5'11'. Not saying she will compete on the level of Davis, but just that we need to give her a chance.
