News report: Tebow to petition for draft status

I think its news that he is petitioning to get his actual status. That certainly suggests a higher level of interest in leaving early than otherwise might have been the case.

I know a lot do it. Just really thought he had no interest in leaving early.

Maybe this is just to get a good foundation to go buy the right insurance.

He needs to enjoy his last year as a college QB. I would like him to go pro, but I dont ever see him being a starter in the NFL.

After having listened to a lot of commentators on his slow release, I think the concensus is that he has talent and athleticism, but does need a lot of work on some machanics, and particularly that release. I have to admit for the longest time I could not see that argument but watching him this year and listening to the commentators I think I was wrong on that. He needs work and time.

He may not ever get there, but I do think it would be a mistake to count him out at this point.

Can't imagine much improvement over the next year with mechanics.

That seems a harsh comment. How do you know that? If that's what he focuses on, seems like he's pretty good with making up his mind and getting things done.

He might fail because he simply cannot physically do it, yes, but it won't be for lack of trying.

how does any of this help refute Lex's comment?

I admittedly dirfted. My original point was going to be that I did not know that Lex was an expert or had a crystal ball and that his comment was essentially baseless.

Sorry to have wandered off.

one need not be an expert to critique what Tebow is doing with the football.

Same coaches....same offense...he needs a change! That is all I was implying.

I think an NFL coach could have him straightened out by the beginning of the 09 season.:)

or...he could sit out a year, work on his mechanics and let Kiffin get him ready in Knoxville!

You never change someone's natural throwing motion. They might get his arm up a bit higher, but his "slot" ain't changing much. Ditto pitchers. They can change footwork and tighten up all the stuff leading up to the throw, but that motion is generally what God gave you.

Tebow will be fine no matter what happens. If the Snake can make it in the NFL Tebow can to.

A bigger strike in my opinion (with my crystal ball in hand) is his decision making. Tebow holds the ball as long as UT QBs. In a pro style offense he is going to have trouble with reads.

I think that is a perfectly valid criticism.

Actually having to go under center probably isn't going to help his adjustment process.

He does occassionally. But of course to run Florida's offense its a little less frequent. And I do see some NFL teams in the shotgun quite a bit.

The question isn't whether Tebow needs to improve his mechanics or understanding of the position. He does, just like all quarterbacks trying to make the transition from one level to the next do. The question is whether staying in college and improving them would improve his draft status enough to warrant playing for free in Gainesville for another season. That is going to depend as much on the quarterback class this year as anything else, so I think a feeler is appropriate.

In actuality, the request is probably born of curiosity as much as anything else. He seems like just the sort of jerk who would love to stick around and beat up on the SEC for another year:frown:

interesting........GAry Danielson was on the radio here this morning and this topic was brought up.

in an interview with Tebow, GAry asked him if he would ever go to Urban and Mullins and ask the offense be tweaked to include more pro style stuff to get ready for thedraft........obviously, Tebow played up the "team player" role, and didn't really answer the question, according to Gary.

In any event, as he finished with this particular topic, it was pretty much a consensus that the style of offense would that he's in at FL is the biggest detriment to his development as a pro.......

here's a stat for you........Danileson said that he went back and watched tape of all three years he's taken snaps at UF..........only 16 times has he lined up under center. less than, if ever, that he has ever run a play action pass.

i thought that was an astounding stat.

now, i tihnk that's all fine well and good, but someone will draft him and make him a project.
