Next 11 games

Where is the top 15 talent on this team? It's not there. Chandler is top 15 talent--but he's a true freshman. Vescovi is somewhere between solid and good. JJJ is solid--does a lot of good things--but he's never found his true position and struggles to score. After that we've got a bunch of role players--and that includes Fulky, who is undersized and seems to have lost his way, a bit. We shot the ball well in two or three early-season games--especially against UNC, easily our best game--but our shooting is been poor for quite some time. Where is all this talent that some people seem to think we have? If we truly had it, Barnes would have us winning more games and there'd be less carping about his salary.
Vescovi is good, arguably our best player

I agree that we don’t have a team full of players who will be in the NBA draft this year

The people going on and on about Barnes salary will do that no matter what

If anything like Hubie Brown, we may have 10-12 more years with RB.

Barnes goes when he is ready, regardless of post season success (or non-success).

After work yesterday I caught a bit of interview on the radio with Dane Bradshaw. If I understood correctly, he said that Tennessee has been "shooting the hide off the ball" in practice--which I understood to mean that their poor shooting at game time is (or has become) a purely mental thing. We have great shooters, starting and on the bench.

If you've ever been in a slump--at anything you love or take pride in--you know how it messes with your head, and how "trying harder" only makes it worse.

Eventually, at some point, the ice will crack. Someone will start hitting in a game the way they do in practice. The pressure will fall off. Basketball will be fun again. The guys will loosen up, and (if we keep playing defense) this team will embarrass some opponents.

But there's no predicting when that time will come.

Dane used to be a "color guy" for SEC Network. Haven't heard him in a couple of years. I thought he did a great job. Is he doing just radio work?

This was a local sports talk show interviewing him. He's still doing SEC games for the network, all from his basement.

He talked about how the SEC Network techies make sure everything is set up (connecting) about 6 hours before game time, which will leave him free to watch most of the Tennessee game today before calling the A&M game at 8:30.

They were still doing the game from their homes? One of them said that they were on the mezzanine level at Vandy and it sure seemed like they were right next to each other when the camera was on them. I didn’t watch much with the sound on however.

I can't say about the Vandy game, as he could have driven himself to it, and maybe it's the public airline travel that the network would consider to be the health threat to their broadcast teams.

But it's not technically difficult or expensive to make it appear on screen that they are together. I think some broadcasts which emphasize they are broadcasting remotely are value signaling as part of their network branding.

Not that I would be cynical about media and politics...

Usually when doing the P-B-P from locations other than the site of the game they’ll be pretty forthcoming about it and use a split scream when the broadcasters are on camera. However I did think that the background at Vandy looked odd. But maybe that was because they had to cobble something together since it wasn’t a normal vantage point. Not being a hard sellout they had some options on where to setup.

I don't have TV, but as it was at Vandy's Memorial Gym, with student COVID restrictions in place...
was this the background you saw?

I sincerely hope this comes to fruition. I have my doubts that the light will ever just turn on over halfway through the season, but if it does this team can be special. Hopefully playing at home tonight in front of a sold out crowd will help give them some energy and confidence to shoot better.

I haven’t given up on this team yet. They have an elite defense. And they are capable of very good shooting. The inside game will be a concern for the rest of the year. But if this team can hit its offensive stride in March, they could make a really good run.

Alright, with the win against LSU we are at 13-5(4-3) again the goal being 21-9 (12-6/11-7) or better, remaining slate…

Florida
@ Texas
A&M
@ SC
@ MSST
Vandy
UK
@ Ark
@ Mizz
Auburn
@ UGA
Ark

Need to beat Florida this week and not give a game back, win that one and we put ourselves in a good spot for the SEC race…and then head to Austin with kind of a nothing to lose resume type game.

Yea those 3 are DO NOT LOSE games ideally…there’s a chance that we could have no Q2/3/3 losses at seasons end, would be pretty impressive.
Yeah if we win those 3 games and drop a couple to like Arkansas or Miss State, then that should hopefully balance out in terms of NCAA seed. I just really don't want a 5 seed to play a 12 seed again

Ok. I’m calling major improvement in Tennessee from now til SEC tourney for these reasons:

1) BHH is playing more and will get better due to that.
2) KC & ZZ are getting more comfortable at PG
3) Uros is getting more confidence & is becoming a force
4) Fulkerson is showing some signs of getting life back in his legs. Great spin move at Vandy & played pretty good vs LSU.
5) JJJ shot terribly early but in his last 2 SEC games, he’s 41% I believe from 3. He was injured early with his hand and now appears more comfortable with his shot.

There, I said it. I’ll admit if I’m wrong

Yea, 4 would feel better as far as winning 1 game…but would play a 5 to make S16 so pretty much same path if you win your first. Getting to a 3 seed would be ideal.

For sure feel the same, what record you think we would need with our SOS to secure a 3 seed? Assuming we need to at least beat one of Kentucky or Auburn
