I’m very happy to be wrong. We have shown great resilience in these last two games. I was very disgusted by losing to a Kentucky team we shouldn’t have lost to at home, with abysmal shooting.
I’ll keep saying it. All about shot selection. The one positive about that UK game is they gambled that our players not named Lanier couldn’t hit 3s consistently enough to win, we stupidly played right into their game plan, played our worst game of the year and STILL could’ve won that game at the end. Absolutely no one can question the fight in this team and I love that. If we mostly play smart basketball like we have the last 2 games (a few lapses last night for sure) we can and will beat anyone, including possibly Auburn. If we can play them that tough on their court we have a shot to beat them anywhere and not many teams can.I’m very happy to be wrong. We have shown great resilience in these last two games. Look at how we’ve progressed this season though. First it was, we need a second option behind Lanier. Now we’re talking about needing a fourth option! It’s not just tonight either. Igor played well against UK too, no one else did unfortunately. We have to have more of what we got out of Igor last night. He doesn't have to have 21 and 10 every single game. But 15 and 8 (already has the rebounds) would surely be nice with occasional 20 plus in points. He has to be a difference maker in these bigger conference games. If he is, we become a tough team to beat as not all the pressure is on Lanier, ZZ, and Gainey to score. We have to be able to break out the offense against these better teams.
Okpara has also become a little bit more an offensive threat and his paint defense is pretty elite right now.
Igor has been wildly inconsistent this year though. Lanier was lights out against OOC opponents. Then when we started playing the brutal part of our schedule he's been extremely up and down, and non existent in the games weve lost.Look at how we’ve progressed this season though. It’s basketball - bad shooting nights just happen sometimes. The overreactions on this board happen way too often imo.I’m very happy to be wrong. Igor has certainly been inconsistent but it had to be an adjustment for him, as well as these other guys we brought in. Plus it takes time to find chemistry together. It really feels like we’re starting to find that. These last 2 games have been far more fluid offensively. Igor’s last 2 games (UK and MO) and his best 2 of the year. I’m buying what we’re selling. We will equal or better the run we made last year. I’ve thought it all year long and nothing I’ve seen has changed that thought. If anything, I’m more confident now. That doesn’t mean we’re perfect but no one is.Igor has been wildly inconsistent this year though. Lanier was lights out against OOC opponents. Against this conference we are in this year, yeah you better have 4 that can consistently go and get buckets. Because if you don't, you're gonna keep getting results like the Kentucky game, and heck, even the first half of last night wasnt pretty. Glad they decided to take off in the second half.
We did both last year and two years agoThe SEC conference play is tougher than the NCAA tournament in some respects.
Although not as grueling because it is spread out and gives some time for rest and
healing, each game is tougher. NCAA tournament should be a cakewalk in comparison.
The problem in the tournament is the one and done thing.
Let's get past the 2nd weekend this year please.
I'm about ready to move on from Barnes. Could we do worse, ohh yeah...a lot worse, possibly.... but he isnt ever going to get us to a Final Four so what's the point?
Time to retire, Barnes.
Games like that happen in a marathon seasonI'm very glad to be wrong. I hope I'm wrong on all of them. I want the Vols to win every game or competition, no matter what it is. I was mostly venting frustration after a watching our pathetic, and I do mean pathetic, performance against a mediocre Kentucky team.
I don't think anyone actually that we'd lose 6 in a row. Even the guy that made this thread. He was just venting and concerned our offense was going to cost us a lot more games than we might have thought at one point.Just here to relish in the fact that we all believed this to be a real possibility and also that we’re frikin dumb
I actually thought it was a real possibility. Them boys looked like they forgot how to play basketball for a small stretch there. They were not the same team I watched destroy Baylor and Louisville. They couldn’t buy a basket to save their lives lol. I still don’t really know what happened there, but looks like they’ve figured some things out and hopefully they keep and carry that over these next 4 games.I don't think anyone actually that we'd lose 6 in a row. It looks like we have finally woke up and decided it's easier to score when you're not jacking it from 3 every possession and having no thoughts about getting to the rim.
We keep this most recent play up, and we may not lose many more the rest of the year. We revert back to what we were doing in the losses against Kentucky, Auburn, and Vandy, and we could for real lose to anyone we play the rest of the year.
