I am enjoying this year just as much as the net guy, I even watch the game....again on the TV or from FREAK's YouTube posting of the game (thank you by the way LOVE watching this season all the time).
I was just thinking how much of a drop-off we COULD have next year Hooker, Tillman, McCoy, Hyatt, and some other offensive lineman. That is like 75% of our offensive output. Next year we will have Milton MAYBE coming back?? and ALL the RB group, which will be nice, Are we going to suffer lower scoring offense BUT with a better defense and win game 28-17 or 35-21 next year.

I honestly don't know the answer and know we have some 4/5 star WR and defensive players. Better players overall and deeper but.......less experienced and younger lots of freshman playing?

I’ve been wondering about this too and this is where a string of top 5 recruiting classes helps which unfortunately we don’t have currently. That’s how Georgia, Bama and Ohio State reload every year without much drop off. But hey none of us thought we would be 8-1 at this point either so there’s that.

It depends on who's QB

McCoy and Hyatt could be back. Probably not in Hyatt's case, but you never know how a young man decides. Most of our offensive line could return. We'll probably lose both our best tight ends and will need to backfill them with younger blood. Otherwise, we seem to have very good depth across the offense.

Really, it all comes down to the next QB. Milton, Jackson, or Iamaleava? Fully settled into our fast-paced offense, or still learning?

We know Heupel, Golesh, and Halzle are genius at developing QBs and shaping the offense around their capabilities. So there's good reason to think maybe we just reload and keep firing.

Here's hoping.

Go Vols!

Pretty sure it's gonna be a whole drop off for the entire team. I'm pretty sure a lot of our defensive starters right now are seniors

This coaching staff has proven it can coach up players. Get some bodies from the portal, QB with Milton or Nico, and roll. I think we'll have a 10-2 floor next year tbh.

think where the portal almost killed our program a couple year ago can be our saving grace. Every WR that hasn't gotten much playing time but has a very high ceiling or a WR playing really really well at like a Tulane or Coastal Carolina that comes to Tennessee for a year to build their NFL draft stock and get their 455 yards and 7 TDs.

Joe Milton will play well. Chase nimrod, Squirrel white, and Webb will do fine at receiver. RBs should be solid. Offensive line should return everyone except Darnell if I’m not mistaken

Another thing that’ll help is the playing time guys like Keyton, Sampson, etc. have got this year. I think Milton will do well next year. Honestly believe we will be ok.

What has McCoy done that makes you think he can get drafted next year? There are now questions about how ready Hyatt is... and there actually were before. LOTS of people noticed that while he has great speed the scheme was primarily responsible for getting him so wide open.

Both of those guys will have enough NIL money to protect them if they come back. Both can benefit and especially Hyatt if he can put on 10 lbs and prove he is physical enough to get off tight man coverage.

UT will lose Carvin and Wright off the OL. While they've been very good as a unit, no one else has played well enough to leave early. We will see how much the staff trusts the guys who have been in development behind them when they start working the portal. The Vols have bodies to go around Mincey, Spraggins, and Mays. I think Crawford has another year due to Covid. Dayne Davis is a guy who can fill a gap at either OT or OG. UT has recruited some MASSIVE guys who will be 2nd and 3rd year players.

We are deep across the board in Seniors, losing so many will cause us to take a step back, Milton is a unknown and also the receiving corps, hopefully it all works out for the best but I think we drop a few next year, hopefully we come in at 8-4 or 9-3. I dont think we can muster much more than that but 24 should be amazing.

Agree on Hyatt - he really needs to show he can play against the more physical DBs.

We’ll miss the guys who move on but will welcome the returning players and the new guys and let the coaches mold them into a competitive squad- just as they’ve done this year.

I think a good season is in the cards next season. Hopefully the portal gives more than it takes away. We should pick up some hot talent in the portal and recruiting should be showing dividends after our coming out party this season.

Players should want to come be part of this rebirth on the Hill.

I feel confident that the offense will always be solid under Heupel. A drop off next year is inevitable but there is no reason we shouldn’t be good by SEC standards. The progression of the defense has me really intrigued.

I doubt we have much of a drop off on offense since Heupel has been like Top 10 on offense every season he has been in coaching. He will find a way to score points. I expect our defense to be much improved next season since we are bringing back most of our starters and will probably get some help out of the portal.
