Next year offensive drop-off??

I am enjoying this year just as much as the net guy, I even watch the game....again on the TV or from FREAK's YouTube posting of the game (thank you by the way LOVE watching this season all the time).
I was just thinking how much of a drop-off we COULD have next year Hooker, Tillman, McCoy, Hyatt, and some other offensive lineman. That is like 75% of our offensive output. Next year we will have Milton MAYBE coming back?? and ALL the RB group, which will be nice, Are we going to suffer lower scoring offense BUT with a better defense and win game 28-17 or 35-21 next year.

I honestly don't know the answer and know we have some 4/5 star WR and defensive players. Better players overall and deeper but.......less experienced and younger lots of freshman playing?

Bru, should be back, maybe Hyatt, and Squirrill could turn out pretty good as well. OL is more concerning. But we will probably have a drop off though, we are losing a lot of good players.

I believe we will have a 25% decrease in offensive production. That still gives us approximately high 30s average points for the season. Our defense will dictate whether or not we win 10 games.

The 2nd half of our next 3 games we should be able to get next year’s guys some playing time.
I don't think they will get as much time as you think. The reason is in order for us to make playoffs we have to beat everyone by 40+. Unless we are up by 50 I just don't see them taking a chance to get guys playing time when a playoff berth is on the line.

Put in the 2s and let them run our offense rather than run the clock and we still build the lead to 50+.

Much will depend on our QB play and if Milton (or whomever) can make good decisions. I expect we will lean on our running game more next year particularly early on. We lose 2 starters on the OL and could really use a good tackle from transfer portal. Depth on the OL will continue to be a problem for a couple years. Will miss Fant as he has turned into a versatile TE weapon. I think Warren may have another year (if he wants it) but need to confirm that. If Hyatt goes pro that will hurt. Squirrel is built for that role however. Expect Keyton will choose to come back. Bru should return and may be our #1 option next year. We will be an attractive option for potential WR transfers regardless. I think Kaleb Webb will surprise some folks. Overall we may not be as explosive and Milton maybe a bit more reluctant to run himself. Complete trust in this coaching staff otherwise.

I wondered the same thing after the 1st year because we lost 2 good wr and our best running back. It turned out okay this year. You never know what will make a difference with chemistry, leadership, etc. though.

Joe Milton will play well. Chase nimrod, Squirrel white, and Webb will do fine at receiver. RBs should be solid. Offensive line should return everyone except Darnell if I’m not mistaken

Hyatt and Bru will be back. Neither will be high draft picks.

We won’t be a top 5 in the nation in offense and scoring. I think we still get into the top 20. So there is what 130 D1 schools? If we were 20th in offense and scoring that would still be great. So yes we will take a step back but we will still be very good.

I would imagine McCoy will be back. Can't see him going to the NFL, and don't see him leaving for any other reason. Keyton could be back as well if he uses his covid year. We should still have 3 of our 5 starters on the offensive line as well and all the running backs. It'll be interesting to see if Calloway sticks around, because he's very talented but a head case. I would like to see Merrill go to the slot. I would also like to see Holiday get some more snaps as well. There's a ton of talent just mostly riding the bench right now because our main guys at RB/WR/TE pretty much don't come off the field. TE is easily the biggest cause for concern. Not depth there.

Guys like Squirrel, Merrill, and Holiday really need to step up next year. It would be good to hold on to Bru and add another elite transfer wr as well. If that happens, we address needs on the o-line and we add another SEC caliber tailback, and the offense could take a step forward. If not we could take a step back, yeah.

I don’t know……….seems like things are getting more offensive every year.

At least next year we won't lose valuable talent to the portal. This staff and our success this year assures that. Inversely, the opportunities presented by the portal should be key to continuing to be close to the offensive juggernaut we are.

The loss of Byron Young, Flowers, McCullough, Burrell, Beasley and Paxton will be of major concerns on the other side of the ball. Again, portal opportunities.

In the end I trust the HC to keep us competing for championships.

AND IT FEELS AWESOME TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT AGAIN ! ! !

If Milton is our man, there will be a drop off. He just isn't as quick as HH. He's a big dude and when he gets moving he can run over people. Hope one of the youngins' picks it up early, and we at least have a choice .

I'm more worried about defensive drop off, we could lose our top 4 LBs with Banks, Mitchell, Solon, Beasley and top 4 starting edge rushers/DEs with Bumpus, Young Harrison and Baron.

Schedule isn't too bad next year; I can see 9+ wins out of it with aTm and at FL being toss-ups and the tough set of at Bama and UGA.

Yeah the only losses i think Tennessee has in 2023 at this point is Alabama and Georgia.

Justin Williams-Thomas may emerge by then, who knows. But if Milton isn’t as good as Hooker we probably regress a little

More then likely there will be a drop off. We will benefit from the portal but without an elite QB, it's almost impossible to win 10+ games

It depends on who's QB

It actually depends on the quality of the team as a whole. The QB is just one position. As we have seen with Bama, you can have a nondescript QB who is little more than a game manager, who mostly hands off to top quality RBs, and still play championship level. Tom Brady wouldn't have won anything with the Pats if not for a stout OL, a defense with practically all-pro players at the LB positions, capable WRs and TEs, especially Gronk, and serviceable but hard running RBs. It takes a team to win, not just a single player as some want to insist. Our QB, yes, Milton, will be fine if he has the supporting cast a winning team needs. Neither he nor Hooker can throw passes and catch them as a WR, and neither plays defense. It's all about the combination of parts, not just one part. GEEEEEEZZZZ!
