Next year offensive drop-off??

FWIW, this will change over time as we see who UT loses or adds in reality.

My best 10 month away guess is that UT will have a modest lull and finish with 2-3 regular season losses and a shot to be a 10 win team after bowl season. That could change.

I am enjoying this year just as much as the net guy, I even watch the game....again on the TV or from FREAK's YouTube posting of the game (thank you by the way LOVE watching this season all the time).
I was just thinking how much of a drop-off we COULD have next year Hooker, Tillman, McCoy, Hyatt, and some other offensive lineman. That is like 75% of our offensive output. Next year we will have Milton MAYBE coming back?? and ALL the RB group, which will be nice, Are we going to suffer lower scoring offense BUT with a better defense and win game 28-17 or 35-21 next year.

I honestly don't know the answer and know we have some 4/5 star WR and defensive players. Better players overall and deeper but.......less experienced and younger lots of freshman playing?
Offensive output drop-off -
Not much way to go with this but to drop-off some.... It's hard to beat this year's output and be better than we are now. That is being the the no. one in football this year.

This staff CAN develop players in the transfer portal era. Remember how weak and gassed out D was last year. Then we had big losses on that side. The thought was that our front seven was going to be like a wet paper sack this year.
But, the reality is that every current player, every rookie, and every portal guy has been better! For the first time in forever I look on the field each week and think we LOOK the part physically and confidently. The D has been a bigger surprise than the O this year IMO.

I am not expecting much...been impressed by Milton's accuracy in mop-up duty. Think we have a great group of WRs ready to take over...

That being said--we have FL and AL both away next year, so while we may not have a huge drop off, record may be difficult to repeat with both those games away...

I am already banking on a possible 9-3 type season next year. That game in Gainesville is a classic toss-up depending on whether Florida gets better or not with Napier (if Napier isn't the right fit, it could be an easier matchup). UVA is not very good but it could be tricky since it is an opener against a relevant program.

Florida will still have Butch Zook coaching them in 2023 and will be hovering around 6-6 in my opinion. I think Tennessee's losses in 2022 will be to Alabama and Georgia.

Throw some big time NIL money at Jalin Hyatt.

It all depends on QB play. If it's there, it'll work itself out. If not, yes, we'll take a step back.

What has McCoy done that makes you think he can get drafted next year? There are now questions about how ready Hyatt is... and there actually were before. LOTS of people noticed that while he has great speed the scheme was primarily responsible for getting him so wide open.

Both of those guys will have enough NIL money to protect them if they come back. Both can benefit and especially Hyatt if he can put on 10 lbs and prove he is physical enough to get off tight man coverage.

UT will lose Carvin and Wright off the OL. While they've been very good as a unit, no one else has played well enough to leave early. We will see how much the staff trusts the guys who have been in development behind them when they start working the portal. The Vols have bodies to go around Mincey, Spraggins, and Mays. I think Crawford has another year due to Covid. Dayne Davis is a guy who can fill a gap at either OT or OG. UT has recruited some MASSIVE guys who will be 2nd and 3rd year players.
They’ve been looking for the best place to allow Addison Nichols to dominate. I think it’ll be as Carvin’s replacement tho he could compete for RT snaps. Brian Grant will be a huge factor in the future and that may be next season. Same with Clipper and Reddick. Nobody (including Wright) was considered an institution coming into this season, and many worried how we’d replace Cade Mays. Ellarbe coached that out and every starter vastly improved…especially Cade’s brother. I believe it’s more familiarity with the system and it lends to development.

Who predicted 10+ wins THIS season? Other than Doc between bouts of sampling his own anesthesia? 😉 We’re (rightfully) enamored with HH because of his decision making, but there are plays being missed practically every game. That improves so will the team performance. As happy as we’ve been, there’s more potential.

Agree. I'm not expecting a major drop off because of why I think UT is winning.

I think it starts with the culture Heupel has fully instituted within the program now. They work hard. They focus. They develop and understand the expectations. I think the scheme is a pretty big part of what UT's offensive success. You need an "operator" at QB... Heupel has been working with Milton for well over a year so I don't think that will be a problem. However his occasional mental lapses do cause concern.

I have warmed to Banks over the last several weeks. I think the D has gotten better. I'm still not completely sold though. These last 3 games mean a lot more to me on that side of the ball than maybe a lot of other people. I would like to see them dominate and gain confidence against those pretty weak O's. In order they rank 13th, 10th, and 12th in the SEC in total O.

McCoy and Hyatt could be back. Probably not in Hyatt's case, but you never know how a young man decides. Most of our offensive line could return. We'll probably lose both our best tight ends and will need to backfill them with younger blood. Otherwise, we seem to have very good depth across the offense.

Really, it all comes down to the next QB. Milton, Jackson, or Iamaleava? Fully settled into our fast-paced offense, or still learning?

We know Heupel, Golesh, and Halzle are genius at developing QBs and shaping the offense around their capabilities. So there's good reason to think maybe we just reload and keep firing.

Here's hoping.

Go Vols!
Hyatt is projecting first round. No way he’s coming back. Bru seems like a likely choice. He needs to trim down and up his production. Milton would have two years in the system and seems like a logical choice. Got to hit the portal and find a playmaker.

THIS by a factor of at least 2 or 3.
I don't see how we duplicate Hendon Hookers production and timely playmaking abilities next season.

The defense will be more athletic but we really need Pearce and Josephs to have monster off seasons. Baron in year 2 at WDE is crucial. Not worried about secondary.

2nd year Nico is when I expect the offense to soar again.

But nothing ever turns out the way we think it will. We may go 15-0 next season or 9-4

We are deep across the board in Seniors, losing so many will cause us to take a step back, Milton is a unknown and also the receiving corps, hopefully it all works out for the best but I think we drop a few next year, hopefully we come in at 8-4 or 9-3. I dont think we can muster much more than that but 24 should be amazing.
Price said the other day that a lot of those seniors still have a Covid year. Banks, Flowers, etc. will be gone but some others can still come back and likely will. Fant done as well.

Milton will be back. I think he’ll have a great season. McCoy should be back. If he leaves, he’s retiring from football.

I predicted 10 wins this season. Started a thread about it and VN collectively told me I was drinking too early in the morning.

I'm more worried about defensive drop off, we could lose our top 4 LBs with Banks, Mitchell, Solon, Beasley and top 4 starting edge rushers/DEs with Bumpus, Young Harrison and Baron.

Schedule isn't too bad next year; I can see 9+ wins out of it with aTm and at FL being toss-ups and the tough set of at Bama and UGA.

You have 7 wins OOC, candy, USCe, mizzou
3 “Toss ups” Kentucky TAMU, FU
2 losses UGA until we win it might be a loss and Bama because it’s AT Bama
