Neyland #2 in seating capacity?

I was against lowering capacity but honestly after it was done I didn't care one bit because we have a great stadium and you really do have to look at others to understand what a gift we have in terms of overall stadium design.

Neyland's time spent studying at MIT has paid us more dividends in terms of creating a unique and incredibly good looking stadium than most realize. It was designed with a keen eye on aesthetics, durability over the years, and with future updates and renovations in mind.

A&M's stadium is fugly - they know it and they're doing something about it (or at least they think they are). Although with the price and stated capacity aims, I think they may be disappointed with outcome because there's not much money left to make it look better with such a big jump in seating. Their stadium like so many others was built without much aesthetic in mind and as such it's uniqueness comes more from the tradition the Aggies and Aggie fans themselves have come up with just like the Swamp is made a tough environment by the gators and fans.

Vol fans have been gifted a stadium that stands out both in terms of design and the traditions we've made and continue to make. Only a few other schools are fortunate enough to have both.

This may have been "fixed " since 07 when I was last in Neyland but the concourse in the South upper deck is too small and poorly designed. You can't move at halftime.

The viewing at Neyland is spectacular, IMO.

When it comes to the concourses... Phase I dealt with the North lower concourse (completed 2006). Phase II dealt with the West lower concourse (completed 2008). Phase III dealt with the West upper concourse (completed 2010). Phases IV and V are supposed to deal with the South and East concourses so I doubt it's been fixed yet. Someone else may know but given the budget problems they may be behind the previous schedule.

Thanks for the explanation. Since those are the least expensive seats in terms of donation required I'm pretty sure that project has been shelved

Happy to help in anyway I can. I wish I could say with certainty that you were wrong about the 'cheap seats' factor possibly playing a role but unfortunately it seems that way everywhere no matter the team or place. It's easy for a fan to go when the seats are great and you get that extra sense of pride for having gotten your hands on great seats but it takes a special fan to go no matter where they might be sitting and that should be rewarded or at the very least not overlooked.

The renovations are outstanding, but did we really need the Tennessee Terrace? I'd rather have 107,000 than just barley over 102,000 with the Tennessee Terrace. JMO.

They'll have to downsize after Johnny Football's gone.

They have a couple down seasons and they'll have a bunch of empty seats, like almost everyone else.

It's getting more and more difficult to fill a 90,000+ stadium these days. One would think the folks at Texas A&M would figure that out.

Once we get back to winning, I could see us add a third deck, between the press boxes. That would put us back on top, nationally. Not just in the SEC. I too think we need to replace bleachers with seatbacks. Maybe have a row in each section, where there are larger seats for the fat folks. When they sell tickets, then...they should mention that larger seats are mandatory (and cost a bit extra) if your girth extends beyond a standard sized seat. People shouldn't have to suffer cause you want to carry enough excess baggage around to constitute a second person sitting with you.

That's not right because that tackle box is full.

I agree that we need to get better and fill the seats we have, but I think it is important that we also keep the reputation of having the largest stadium in the conference. Tennessee is known for that.

I don't know what needs to be done but Neyland is as loud as many of the smaller stadiums. We need some bose engineers to come in and maximize noise levels for opposing teams on offense.

How about free loud speakers for first 40,000 fans wearing Orange during conference games?
