Neyland Stadium becoming more annoying (my thoughts)

I AM NOT an old-fogy so don't bash me for being out of touch. I am 33 years old and I grew up on hip-hop and pop culture, which I enjoy still to this day. But, it has it's time and place and can be rather annoying when it is OVER-DONE!!

I know that keeping up with the times and changing is necessary to a degree but there is a difference when old white dudes (Hart and Cheek) don't know the difference between being "cool" and out of touch really means.

Every single time there was a break in play, a time out, a critical point in the game last Saturday I noticed both bands trying to get into the action and atmosphere. Only to be completely drowned out by "throw your hands in the air if you ain't never scared"

I mean every once in a while is okay. Pre-game, the occasional tv time-out, etc.

But we have one of the largest and most recognizable bands in the entire country. Laugh all you want, but UTs band is one of the reasons we are so recognizable and every sports fan knows us by Rocky Top. The team doesn't play Rocky Top, the band does.

It is college football, NOT the damn Titans. If I wanted to go to a concert with overly loud blaring annoying music, I would go to a Titans game. Part of why people enjoy college games is the atmosphere and pageantry.

This coupled with the fact that cell phones do not work in Neyland Stadium are driving people away. This isn't just me *****ing about it. This is what I hear from tons of people in the stands. The "crunk" "hype" pre-recorded music isn't getting ANYONE more involved.

I would bet that 99% of our fan base would rather hear Rocky Top and our other fight songs over hearing "throw your hands in the air if you ain't never scared" . It's true!!

If playing loud music helps us land recruits, I'll suffer through it. It's much better than suffering through seasons like we've had the past 6 years. So I guess what I'm saying is.......GET OVER IT, you know.....in a nice way.

I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't have said this if we played 'the red team' and we won. I could give two sh*ts as long as we win. Don't get me wrong I love The Pride and I also like the other direction the music is going but my mouth is shut is we are winning. This ish is getting blown out of context.

You just confused the hell out of me... You understand
Why they do it, then you hate it, then you are going
To curb stomp the director of the piped in music

Charlie Murphy,Cocaine is a helluva drug...

I said I understand how music does it, and the POTSB can do it, if they will.
And yeah, I don’t like the piped stuff one little bit

good first paragraph. Well structured second paragraph. Unfortunately the two are polar opposites and make for a bad read. If you get it, based off all your previous experiences, you would have got it Saturday. The place was rocking and there's no possible way anyone can justifiably argue the piped in music didn't help.

They are not polar opposites, your reading comprehension and critical thinking capabilities come into question if you ‘don’t get it’. Yes I can argue that the repetitive, poor quality piped in music sucked and I’d rather have heard the POTSB, any day, all day. LIVE music is where it’s at.

Goin 135 mile an hour
With my hair on fire
Passed out awake
An that gal, she ain’t had one word for me since!”

ANSWER THE FREAKING QUESTION!!!!!!!!!

Would UT players quit and lose if the sound system went out????

No they wouldn't. I'm all for starting new traditions (grey unis) and revamping old ones, but The Pride of The Southland is a 144 year tradition that should never be overshadowed.

Or maybe it was the orange pants, since people think that type of stuff really makes a difference.

My wife is actually taking credit for this win. It was her 1st game in Neyland (4th overall).

Everyone at the post game tailgate gave her credit as well. I guess that makes it official.

I stood up on 3rd downs and big plays this past weekend, and that was it.
I had a state trooper tell me that the people behind me couldnt see!! AND this was in the 4th qt.
I couldnt believe it I am a mild fan I never talk ish to other teams or our obnoxious fans, I dont even always stand up on 3rd down. I was shocked

The entire east sideline of the stadium stood the entire game with a very few sitting occasions between plays. Usually I like to sit more but with my fitbit I get credit for a step each time I stand so I have no complaints. Just kidding it was electric the whole game and my 64 year old legs hung in there just fine.:dance2:

If it makes the atmosphere more "rocking" and helps motivate, I'm all for it. Heck, I would even endure some Rascall Flatts if need be.....

This is what you young people will look like one day... getting jiggy wiff it..

If they weren't polar opposites, you wouldn't have had so many call you out on it. You can argue that you don't like it, that's fine. You can't say you get it, pumping music in to get the crowd pumped up, only to say it pump up the crowd.

Not necessarily directed just at you, this just seemed the most appropriate response to ask the question in response to, but has anyone considered that the simple fact that the team looked like it belonged on the field with SEC level competition for two straight games is what created the good atmosphere this past week?

The UF game was pretty good last year even without the canned music being blasted all through the game, but fans quickly jumped right back off when they realized that the first two games had been nothing more than Fool's Gold and we were in for another horrible season. Last week's win has been a long time coming and is it not possible that a large part of the atmosphere was a carry over from the close call with UGA and then elevated further once it was obvious that performance wasn't just a flash in the pan and that the team had showed up against quality competition for a second straight game for the first time in YEARS.

As a former member of the Pride. Please don't have them try to play some of the rap of modern music. They look and sound stupid.

And I'm not even going to pretend that the last bit of what you said is English. That being said, it was rockin' in Neyland last weekend with the piped in music and band. Give it a rest you bunch of blue hairs.

I'm a Granny and me and Papaw loved Neyland rocking and rolling. No problem for me. We are LOUD too. They are going to miss our big mouths at the Auburn game if I can't get a ticket.

cell phone coverage is one of the most confusing complaints for me. Can't be part of the "atmosphere and pageantry" if you're staring at a 4" screen

Its five, thank you very much.. oh wait, you were talking about cell phone screens.. ohhhhhh

Wow. 17 pages on this issue. I'm shocked how devisive this is. I'm sorry I rendered an opinnion. Whatever makes everyone happy is cool with me. Go Vols.

Y'all enjoy your games in Neyland. I now go only once or twice a year. First, I AM an old fogey who attended my first UT game in 1964. Had season tickets '82-2002. Today's rap crap & DJ doodoo isn't for me. I'm a "live music" guy. GO VOLS! Beat them wretched Bammers.:D
