Neyland Stadium becoming more annoying (my thoughts)

Different people like different things. I like the music that's being played at the stadium now more than what they have done.

the players seem to enjoy the hip hop and hard core Memphis style rap; which is who I really care about being in a good mood so they will play hard. Us becoming a winning team will make the fans happy no matter what music is played

The players also seem to like rocky top and get hype to that as well as the occasionally country song over the PA.

I agree with them I like a mix about 50/50. Too much of either style gets boring.

I also think that primarily PA music at time outs and primarily the Pride of the Southland band during game play is a good way to naturally mix it up.

i hate hip hop, rap, and pop. well i like pop in the first half of the 20th century. anyway, this is the case everywhere. you're 33, and presumably white, so yeah you are just falling into that category where pretty girls and drinking are not worth the over-priced food, the loud, ****e music, and the concentration of loud idiots.

my advice is to do what i do. get some really good meat and really good beer (still saves money compared to going to the game so thats how i justify it), and if you are social invite over a few good friends, and grill out and enjoy the game on your big a** HDTV.

you're counter-culture now brother, and it aint gonna get any better.

As I stated earlier in this thread. I'm a 33 year old black male and if they pumped Kenny Chesney or Beethoven or any music this loud and frequently it would be as annoying. If not more.

Wow....Sounds like turning 33 is really going to suck.

Cell phones don't work because you're in a giant concrete bowl. Should they put a cell tower on top of neyland? Get off your phones and enjoy the game.

Also, I agree with your sentiment. There is a balance between the band and prerecorded music that should be kept.

My phone works there, albeit a little slow sometimes. I use it to send pics of the game to friends that couldn't make it and to listen online to the play by play.

already there brother. you just need one pretty girl at a time and a few good beers. nothing wrong with mellowing out. keep partying if you want to, you'll feel it sooner or later.

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.

Kenny Chesney?! you put Kenny Chesney and Beethoven together? haha. but yeah, i know what you mean, little riffs and those 20-30s of a song over and over are annoying as hell.

This country's hard on people, you can't stop what's coming, it ain't all waiting on you. That's vanity.

The end times are near...60 year olds are loving the new
style while 30 year olds are bit*hing about rap, the best golfer
is black and the best rapper is white... You can find me with a
walking billboard outside Neyland from now on telling
Everyone the "End is Near"...

I'm older than that, yet still appreciate pretty girls, a good beer, and loud music. In addition, I'd say I am less bothered by overpriced food and idiots than I used to be.

So: there's hope.

It's so weird... I don't recall anyone ever complaining about cell phone connection, until recently.

I know a game can not be completely enjoyed without uninterrupted cell/smart phone access.

They must have worked perfectly fine in the '90s & early '00s, because Neyland Stadium was always packed, the fans seemed to completely enjoy the game, and no one ever complained about the lack of cell connection.

Did UT put up some sort of digital media connection black out net, to block fans from using media devices during the games?

I wonder why they would allow cell cennection/reception in the '90s & early '00s, only to block them now?

Surely Neyland management officials know that fans can't completely appreciate a game without media device access. It just seems like a logical desire to recreate the success of the '90s & early '00s, so they should make sure a media connection is available for personal tech devices.

There's just no way UT Vols have the level of success in the '90s & early '00s without a media connection for the fans' smartphones. There was a lot of successful UT football before the '90s & early '00s and I highly doubt that is even possible if the fans didn't have connection for their devices.

Imagine how terrible it would have been if the fans were unable to use their smartphones during the '82 season or the '85 season - the UT Vols football history books would probably look a lot different if fans couldn't use their media devices in Neyland Stadium!

I hate to even consider how different things might be had the fans been blocked from using their devices during the '52 season!

Considering all the obvious benefits born from fans' access to an in-stadium media connection over the past 100+years, it boggles my mind that they would let even 1 game pass without that media access - especially during such a critical phase of program reconstruction!!

I AM NOT an old-fogy so don't bash me for being out of touch. I am 33 years old and I grew up on hip-hop and pop culture, which I enjoy still to this day. But, it has it's time and place and can be rather annoying when it is OVER-DONE!!

I know that keeping up with the times and changing is necessary to a degree but there is a difference when old white dudes (Hart and Cheek) don't know the difference between being "cool" and out of touch really means.

Every single time there was a break in play, a time out, a critical point in the game last Saturday I noticed both bands trying to get into the action and atmosphere. Only to be completely drowned out by "throw your hands in the air if you ain't never scared"

I mean every once in a while is okay. Pre-game, the occasional tv time-out, etc.

But we have one of the largest and most recognizable bands in the entire country. Laugh all you want, but UTs band is one of the reasons we are so recognizable and every sports fan knows us by Rocky Top. The team doesn't play Rocky Top, the band does.

It is college football, NOT the damn Titans. If I wanted to go to a concert with overly loud blaring annoying music, I would go to a Titans game. Part of why people enjoy college games is the atmosphere and pageantry.

This coupled with the fact that cell phones do not work in Neyland Stadium are driving people away. This isn't just me *****ing about it. This is what I hear from tons of people in the stands. The "crunk" "hype" pre-recorded music isn't getting ANYONE more involved.

I would bet that 99% of our fan base would rather hear Rocky Top and our other fight songs over hearing "throw your hands in the air if you ain't never scared" . It's true!!

The recruits and players think otherwise.....https://vine.co/v/hXmPeHL1iln

I thought it fired the players up. I'm in my 40's and it didn't bother me at all. Old or new stuff I could give two squats as long as we win. That's the best feeling in the world.GBO

I love doing what you described (steak, beer, HDTV) but I was at the USC game and let me tell you if I could afford it, I would not miss a home game. We have one of the best venues and atmospheres in all of football...TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!!! Nothing can ever beat screaming rocky top at the top of my lungs along with 95k people as CBJ directs the band. Just an unreal experience.

This. Nothing beats being in neyland. Walking around Knoxville with my wife, eating great food and sharing drinks with vol fans, some being complete strangers, the vol walk, potsb, watching the vols run through the T, the great atmosphere, I could go on and on..
Point being, if you can afford it and are able, nothing comes close to going to the games. I don't give a crap about my cell service or what music they play.

As a former member of the Pride. Please don't have them try to play some of the rap of modern music. They look and sound stupid.

And I'm not even going to pretend that the last bit of what you said is English. That being said, it was rockin' in Neyland last weekend with the piped in music and band. Give it a rest you bunch of blue hairs.

Man you need to read all the posts before you show your ignorance. Most of the older bunch on here like the piped in music. Try reading dude.
