Neyland Stadium bowl question

Too cold or they could tout the Gatlinburg/ Dollywood area. B4 you laugh, what does Charlotte,Nashville, or Boise have?

Nashville has the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame and some historical sites. Downtown is killer as well. More to do than Charlotte imo and I consider my hometown Charlotte (army brat - where my dad is from). Don't know bout Boise - maybe skiing?

Don't forget Knoxville has Calhouns on the river!

I'd say the most legitimate reason Knoxville will never get a bowl game is the size of Tyson-McGhee

Those logos could be a permanent fixture on the turf.

Somewhat, yes, they aren't permanent fixtures, they are inlays, but unless they have a nice budget like the Georgia Dome, they don't know until about 2-3 weeks before the game who is playing. IE, we did the field for the Georgia Dome and then a logo for each thing, SEC championship, high school championship, etc, Boise only got their inlays and I'm sure their bowl doesn't have the budget for rush inlays and stuff.

Alcohol will never be allowed in Neyland because UT is a dry campus.

There are ways around that. As someone mentioned about the U2 concert in Nashville this past summer where they sold beer.

I worked at Calhoun's in Lenoir City when Loudon County was dry and all you had to do was join "the club" and you could sit on the side of the restaurant and drink liquor. I'm sure the powers that be could make Neyland Stadium a "private club" only available to ticketholders during the game.

Bingo. Also, it's a time of year where not only would it be freezing cold but the weather could very easily result in snow or even heavy ice

Same reasons the titans stadium (or further north the browns, bengals, or bears) would never really receive super bowl consideration

(actually Atlanta might never host it again after that ice storm in 2000)

I find the lack of knowledge of the tourist industry in this area unbelievable. I posted this fact earlier.... let me re-post if I may

A) Knoxville is within one days drive to one-half of the population of the United States of America..

B) The three most visited Tourist spots in the USA
1. Hawaii
2. Orlando
3. Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge

I do not know if there needs to a Neyland Bowl or not, but any argument that the Knoxville area does not have tourist is an uneducated and ignorant argument

Forbes has the Great Smokey Mtns. listes as 10 behind, New York, DC, Hollwood, Disney World, Disney Land, Boston, San Fran. Still, it is a Top 10 destination.

Hey, I got a friend in Columbia TN whose son is the number two kicker for Purdue. They went 6-6 and are headed to Detroit for a bowl game on Dec 27th. Think about that "reward". The entire family is going. I hope they have fun! Told him to pack a sweater. At least the stadium is in-doors.

And a couple of hand guns :hi:

How funny and uninformed... Knoxville is only one days drive for over half of the United States population. we are about 25 miles from the third most visited vacation spot in the USA .

The number one tourist location is Hawaii.. the number two is Orlando and the number three is Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg

Guess you have never been here

I take Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg for granted. I had no real idea how visited they truly are until I went to Gatlinburg for Thanksgiving. I thought, "cold + no leaves = ghost town." I don't think I have ever seen more people there. 90% were from out of state.

I wonder why Neyland Stadium doesn't have a bowl game. You'd think it would considering the size and accommidations. Any reasons you folks know of that I might have missed? Has it ever been considered?

UT administrators and Knoxville administrators would never go for it.
The Titans at first were offered to Knoxville and both UT and Knoxville said they did not want to see a pro team in town and did not see the benefits, not even the one year they played as the Tennessee Oilers!

A Bowl Game in Knoxville would be cool but again the good ole boys running the town and UT would say no because God forbid that grass gets used more than 7 times a year!

UT will not allow it.I remember the big deal it was back in 1982 (World's Fair) when they had a pre-season NFL game here. Very rare. The school does not allow the use of Neyland other than to the Vols.

All the chatter about Gatlinburg? Come on. When does that all happen? Try summertime (maybe a few snow skiers too). Not during the early/mid part of December when the bowl game would be played. It's cold, rainy, and miserable here then. No one would come except a few team supporters. Dream on folks.

Really? Interesting if true, but I find it a little hard to believe. Not trying to be a cynic, it just seems a little odd.

actually thought it was because they couldn't sell beer on campus but it's been so long ago

Until somebody shows me a link, I'm calling extreme BS on that one. I could maybe see them playing that first year in Knoxville the way the Panthers did at Clemson, but I can't imagine that the NFL spent even a few seconds thinking about Knoxville as a permanent franchise site.

With Nashville being a larger town in the middle of the state made sense. Putting the team in Knoxville did not.

Neyland would look like a spring game without spring
