Neyland Stadium name change?

Would you ever consider changing the name of Neyland Stadium? It was Shields–Watkins Field (1921–1962). Things were a lot different then. I know he was a good coach and such but you know maybe it’s time to reconsider it. Myself I’d like to see it named John Ward Stadium. Just a thought.
Not only no, but H#!! NO!!!!

In theory what Phillip Fulmer did was IMO a bigger accomplishment.

You do realize who General Robert Neyland was, correct and what he did both coaching and in both WW1 & WW2, correct?

Hate to say this but you have lost your mind pal. Plain simple as JP said you need to read up on the General before posting a thread with garbage like this. 12k posts and 1k likes.... I see why. Oh yeah while I respect your question and the right to ask it but this will put you on my ignore.

You should now turn in your Vol fan card! That is all.

Could just name it after every current coach…….that way you keep it fresh every few years.

This is a sad indictment of our education system today.

The General gave us teams that could not be beaten.
A 17 game steak of unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon. A Tennessee record that will never be beaten.
A coaching tree that spanned the whole southeast. Bobby Dodd (a player and student under Neyland) practically founded Georgia Tech football so much so that they named their stadium after him.
Never, ever lost to the bear.
Bear was even quoted saying that everything he knew about football, he learned from the General. (paraphrase)
Service to his country in both world wars. As a general, you may even have distant relations to someone who served under him.
He should of had several national championships but there was a very strong bias against southern teams. It was very rare for northern teams to come down south as we were looked upon as being inferior. That finally began to change in the 70's.

The General EARNED his spot. Nobody is even close. In football talk, when you speak of the General, you should take your hat off.

Lindsey Nelson (who the baseball stadium is named after) did go on from his calling the Vol's games to national prominence becoming the voice of the Yankee's and I think he did do a few NFL championship games. He reached a much higher level in his profession than John Ward ever reached! He was a real pro and that is why he has a stadium named after him!
I don't know if John Ward ever aspired to being a next level announcer. I do know he is a big part of some of the best memories of my life. I hope he didn't want anything more because I can't imagine anyone else doing it. He was special.

Except Lindsey NeLson was not the voice of the Yankees , that was Mel Allen
who interestingly enough was an Alabama native who got his start doing Alabama‘s PA and then play by play . Lindsey Nelson was the voice of the Mets .

I won‘t charge you one single red cent for the history lesson that everybody but you already knew but all I ask is that you do a little basic research nexf time you post something so patently stupid .,… you know so you don’t look like an uninformed (ignorant) jag off .
