Neyland Stadium Renovations

Good Lord; I started this discussion to see what VOL Nation could add to the game day experience at Neyland, it’s simply pooling ideals together to see what everyone’s thoughts. Not intended to complain or that anyone with a thought is complaining about the current situations, only to say “IF” had a vote to say hmm that would be nice to see at the game. Also including what would make you become a season ticket holder, not stay at home, friend’s house ect.
So Vol Nation keep it real and give me your thoughts, and please don’t dog anyone input.

Go Vols

I agree with the OP, when they are asking for 1000s in donations for season tickets, on top of relieving state funds, why not increase the fan experience? The safety issues in both neyland and TBA are a big concern for me. The steps are a disaster waiting to happen. All need to have rails and get rid of the bleachers.

Last year at the Mizzo game I spoke to some of the fans, and they said a bit surprised we didn't sell beer because they do. So I wonder what the SEC will say?

Mizzo's stadium must not be on campus because I believe it is a big NCAA no no for selling beer at stadiums
on campus

dude...i go to games. i pay to go to games. let's just not be spoiled little brats about what is happening with the food vendors. just comes across whiny. so, back to my first statement, man up.

p.s. the reason i got on the thread is that i thought you were gonna tell us about some new renovations not open up a cry session about what we don't have.

I didn't start the thread. I have my opinion on a topic. And I assumed you don't go to games since you'd go to such lengths to go to one. Heck, tix are headed out for free at game time for the last 5 seasons.

No one is crying about anything. People are giving opinions bc that's what this thread is about.

Do you not understand something here? Or are you just "That Guy"?

UT is always trying to upgrade the experience for fans. Given my experience of only missing a few home games since '96 and spending God only knows amount of money to the university that I'm entitled to give my opinion that food options should be upgraded.

Ps Dude...here are some helpful instruction for life. 1. Grab stick 2. Pull out of ***!

on campus

Not an NCAA rule. there are perhaps 8 or 10 schools selling on campus stadiums. Another 5 or 6 selling at non campus stadiums. It is an SEC rule against doing so though..

I also think because of the pricing of the tickets a payment plan would be nice, it seems that to lump sum the payment is difficult for folks because of employment issues.

60% of the seat tax can be taken off your taxes long form and can be setup in installment payments.

Seriously? I use stadium wifi all the time if for no other reason than to be able to see up to date stats, scores etc.

I understand wanting to make things more convenient in the stadium to enhance the fans experience. However, the most fan friendly sporting event I've ever attended is The Masters, and they don't even allow cell phones on the grounds. I'd even make the argument that nobody having a cell phone actually makes the whole event better because people aren't constantly distracted by their phones and just kind of get to set the outside world aside for the day and focus on what they came to watch. A football game lasts about 4 hours, and it seems like people should be able to do without their phones for that long if need be.

I'm certainly not trying to make it sound like our lives overall would be better without cell phones, but at the same time it's not going to kill people if they have to do without for a few hours. In fact, they might find their experience at the game is better if they actually paid attention to the game they paid $70 to get into.

They already allow you to pay your donation in 12 monthly installments if you want to, or at least they offered that option a couple years ago. However, I do understand them wanting to get the money for the tickets upfront. I imagine if you were allowed to "finance" the whole thing, they would have issues with people leaving them hanging and not holding up their end of the bargain once they had the tickets in their hand. I was told that the new scanners afford them some more flexibility even within the donation installments. Apparently they now have the ability to void your tickets if your monthly payments don't go through, but football season only lasts for 3 months, and if you bought the season tickets within the final few weeks before the season starts, they still have to trust you to come through for 9 other payments with no real recourse if you don't.

Yes; I have paid my donations in payments, they actually have to be paid in full before they will sell the ticket to you.

My thoughts is let me start paying for 2014 season, I get paid monthly and so I pay bills 1st of the month thru my bank, adding a installment payment is simple and convenient for me. They seem to frown on that...oh well just trying to help others to ease the pain of a lump sum payment.

I've done the monthly payments a couple times, and never had to pay the full donation prior to receiving my tickets. The last time I did it, I bought the tickets in mid-August, and had the tickets in hand before even one if the installments had come out of the bank.

Could you just pay yourself monthly installments into a savings account then empty it when its due?

Just a suggestion.

I'm ok with not everyone around me being sloshed. At least with the airplane bottles they can only bring in so much and then they run out. You sell beer and they're going to keep going.

It has been much easier to watch the games sloshed the last 5 years than if I were sober. Helps dull the pain. Hell, UT should have given us free liquor as we came in if we wanted it the last few years.

I love the college football season, its not really watching other games while the game is live, but more about timeouts and halftime. Getting highlights

I was just commenting on the fact that the last time I actually attended a sporting event where neither I nor anyone else had access to a cell phone, not only did it not detract from my enjoyment of the event, it probably made it MORE enjoyable.

One of those moving floors like at the airport. From OCI to the Long Branch to Neyland.

VolNation what would it take for you to buy a season ticket.

I have called and suggested most of services for game day

1st – Last year they said UT @ Neyland WiFi was increased in 2012 season < Good before terrible after game started, 2013 they have partnered with Verizon to increase the signal inside Neyland stadium. >

2nd - Similar to Nascar I would like to see UT create a game day app that would allow season ticket holders to log via email to your account to view the signal for all the televise replays and play by play as if you are at home. Of course #1 would actually have to work.

3rd – The south end has little to no view of the big screen, look to add video board on the opposite end.

4th – Walk ways are just a fire hazard away from being an issue, when you add that many people inside the stadium it just doesn’t work.

5th – Bathrooms and plumbing are just so embarrassing when seen leaking during a game.

6th – Remove bleachers and replace with seats

7th - Parking

What can you add VOL Nation to the list of what and needs:

Suggestions

1. UT Campus simply needs more parking, not only for Football Games, but for everyday activities for students.

2. With new lots built, Allow non-season ticket holders to purchase parking passes for lots that are on campus, but furthest away from the stadium. Move season ticket holders closer to the stadium. Win-Win.

3. Make Non-SEC games free to UT students.

4. Since the Athletic Department is low on reserves, keep a hold on all renovations except the restrooms and plumbing in the South and East sides of stadium. Really cannot be ignored for much longer.

Reduce capacity by about 5-7,000 and make the seats not ridiculously narrow.

Stop charging for student tickets and do whatever it takes to fill up those sections.

Completely start over on the concessions and restrooms.

Remove the barriers behind the seat sections so you can see the field from the concourse and it doesn't feel so claustrophobic.

Go for a job once in a while and don't eat nothing but fried food and I swear the bleachers aren't as narrow as you're suggesting

The bleachers at Neyland are legendary among opposing fans for being crazy tight.

We're limited in what we can do by the $200 mil debt load we are carrying, most of which is the result of the previous stadium renovation.

We might have shot ourselves in the foot with that one, having added $130 mil in debt there, while only marginally improving the gameday experience.

Taking out seats and not charging students for tickets will only cost more money and reduce revenue while adding more debt, so I'm not sure what the answer is.

from a discussion i have had with general neyland's son neither the general or his wife were religious. we can only hope they believed in jesus and god. the afterlife is more important overall than this life though i know some on here will disagree but let's not get into that. GO VOLS!!

This was random.

I just wonder what the great General in the sky, who watches over us every gameday god rest his soul amen, I wonder how He would respond to such requests and complaints as these rolled out before us on this board . . . just askin

Considering he was frequently on the edge of innovations like using sideline telephones and game film, and he made the basic plans for all subsequent expansions of the stadium, I'd have to say he would be in favor of anything reasonable that gets more people to want to come and see the Vols in, quite literally, his stadium.
