NFL Draft

Toheinia was the ultimate underacheiver. He had a terrible attitude, including disrespect for his coaches. He also never performed well. He sort of reminds me of Maurice Clarrett. When he got drafted in the 3rd round, I was mad. However, at least Clarrett played decent for one season. Tohenia is just big. That's not reason enough to waste a draft pick on a player.

I hope Allen and Mahelona do especially well. Both of them could have gone out last year and made more money than this year. I love Mahelona's fire and think he would do well with the Patriots.
Unfortunately Mahelona's workouts have been beyond awful... I've seen him in two group workouts on TV and both times he was by far the worst. Just terrible in every way. I know he's got a lot of heart but I have a tough time believing he will be drafted.

Jason Allen has been making a great comeback in workouts and is projected as a mid-first rounder, 18th overall by the Dallas Cowboys. I could see that happening, especially as the Cowboys could use some help in the backfield and are very fond of ex-Vols.

Here's Mel Kiper's predictions through the first day:

Round
1. CB Jason Allen (18th overall to Dallas)
3. DE Parys Haralson (82nd overall to Miami)

All the rest are second-day picks. My guess is that 4-5 will be taken in rounds 5-7.

I heard Albert Toenia is doing outstanding in the combines. how high do you think he could go? I'm thinking round 3-4

Any personnel director who uses a second round pick on Jesse Mahelona should be fired before he makes his team's next pick. He's a self indulgent, overrated prima donna. He won't last four years in the league.

why?....he seemed like a decent run stopper and good pass rusher to me. Put him on a pro D line where he cant get double teamed every play as he was when he was a Vol and he'd look good. For instance on the NY Giants D line next to strahan, and that other new DE they have. Or next to grant winstrom of the seahawks. As for Toeina if he goes b4 the 7th round ill eat my hat.

He played last year with Parys Haralyson, a high round pick, Jason Hall, who will play in the NFL, and a couple of other guys McBride and McDaniel, who may well play in the league. He was out of shape. A great defensive lineman would have made a play at the end of the Alabama, South Carolina, and/or Vanderbilt games. He did nothing. Good riddance. Hope he likes the CFL or NFL Europe.

I think it was the "self indulgent, prima donna" part that piqued my interest.
Mahelona frequents my favorite Knoxville restaurant, Nama. His behavior is an embarassment for the program. He acts as if the world owes him something. Knoxville will be a much better place without him residing there. Off the subject, everyone on the board who likes sushi should check out Nama when they are in K-Town.

why would he go any earlier? he did nothing here his senior year, and got hurt. As for toeania dropped tons of weight and ran a 4.9 raising his draft stock coonsiderably i see him going middle of the draft.

He did nothing? Are you

Who or what were you watching this season? Shall you be reminded to go back and look at the LSU tape? Even the Bama game (save the fumble) he was running his fanny off.

For not having much blocking for him he wasn't doing so badly. As far as the injury I can't see that that hurts him.
His junior year he proved his stock. He has had several workouts for teams and expect him to go to Denver. They will probably watch the talk and take him between 5 and 7.

For the record I happen to know a lot about what is being said and told to him.

there is a rumor going around that Allen failed his physical but i dont know if its true or not

Word is that Allen’s medical reports are drawing some flags. He did run a 4.39 in the 40, and had a 39 1/2-inch vertical. The Dr’s are now worried that the hip could be a degenerative condition. That’s the word anyway; let’s just hope it isn’t as bad as they are thinking.

I hope he insured himself.
The insurance only covers Jason if he can't play at all. It doesn't cover the money he'll lose if he slips in the draft.

Yeah I know . . . but reading some of the reports I can't tell what the deal is. I've seen everything from late 1st round to 3rd round to he's not able to even pass an NFL physical.

I think Riggs will go 6th or 7th. If he goes any earlier that is a mistake in my opinion

I can’t quote the source word for word but to summarize Riggs, it would for the most part read something like this.

Riggs is an athletic back with outstanding size, speed, and numbers. He navigates through the traffic on the inside, finds the running lanes and quickly gets through them. He is aggressive, puts his shoulders into opponents and doles out punishment and is effective in pass protection. He also flashes the ability to run to daylight. Rigg’s had great junior campaign, and much was expected from Riggs before his ankle injury last year. On the negative side failed to excel while defenses keyed on him. He’s not a make-you-miss back who creates if nothing is available, and He has marginal skills as a pass-catcher. Some scouts feel he’s better suited for the pro game, so if he goes in the second day he could be a steal.

He can play even if he doesn't pass the physical. He's not failing because of any life threatening malady. They'll get the appropriate waivers and he'll play. It's really a cased of who wants to take the risk. If you need a safety bad enough, you take the chance. My guess, absent there being something more severe than previously noted in his physical profile, he goes between 18 and 25.

You could be right. I have seen a couple mock drafts with him going 18th, have also seen mock drafts that he doesn't go in the first two rounds. The thing that hurts his cause is that there is a question mark and there are plenty of capable DBs in this year's draft.

Any way you slice it, Mahelona has been sucking more than a Hoover in workouts and has been killing his own draft stock. Period.

Riggs Jr. took a while to develop and only had 63 carries in his first two seasons at Tennessee. However, after beginning his junior season as a backup to Cedric Houston, Riggs Jr. emerged as the Vols' leading rusher with 1,107 yards and six TDs on 193 carries. Riggs Jr. suffered a season-ending ankle injury vs. Alabama (Oct. 22) and finished his senior year in 2005 with 530 yards and three touchdowns on 127 carries (4.2 ypc). Riggs Jr., whose father Gerald was a three-time Pro Bowl RB in the NFL (Redskins and Falcons), was primed for a monster season in 2005 after really maturing as a football player in 2004, but Riggs Jr. failed to live up to expectations in the six games he played before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Riggs Jr. lacks explosive speed and he still has a lot of room to grow in the passing game both as a receiver and blocker. However, he is a big, powerful north-south runner who will wear an opponent down if given enough carries in a game. Riggs Jr. shares some similar qualities with former Vol Jamal Lewis (Ravens), except Lewis is bigger and runs with more consistent pad-level. In our opinion, Riggs Jr. is too much of an enigma to spend a first day draft selection on in 2006.

Remember Munoz was an all-american his senior year and didnt even get drafted. Sean Young was similar size of toenia and didnt get drafted at tackle either.

I dont think Toeinia is going to get drafted. I'm not sure anyone off of UT's o-line gets drafted. Maybe Rob Smith very late. The o-line simply didnt play well enough to get a lot of interest from the NFL. Toenia may have a shot as a free agent, thats about it.

i actually played with Sean Young in high school and followed what he was doing after school and he went to Jets' summer camp and they told him that he was better than both of their tackles they signed in the draft but since they signed them and not him that he could be on their practice squad. Which is unusual that happened that way because i remember Fulmer saying he was a pretty good athlete, especially for his size.
