NFL pre season prognostication

It'll be difficult for them to lose a lot this year.

I like Williams. He was the Titans' DC in their Super Bowl season.

Panthers will be dangerous.
I went to the game Saturday night, 1st team D and O looked really good...Key looked good, as did Colbert....definitely reason to be optimistic here in Charlotte...get Smith back healthy and the offense could be potent if they can run the ball....

the pressure the D put on was good....

but before i get too excited, i have to remind myself it was the Bills....and they aren't great by any stretch.

Preseason is great. If the Dolphins had played the Steelers in the real game opener last night Big Ben would've had 500 yards and look all world. Saban has definately gotta get those db's playing better.:compute:

lots of folks really high on the phins this year....Saban will have the D ready....plus the AFC East is only a one team race, well two team race this year...the Bills and Jets should not be in contention for anything this year....

for me, this season presents a lot of 4. Oakland....i'll tell you how bad Oakland is...they went after and signed anthony wright...the same guy that the Saints CUT!!!! that's bad. Plus could this team get any older?
saw the game last night...meant aaron brooks here...oops.

watched the Giants/cheifs game last night...impressed with the Giants running game and defense...they shut down the chiefs completely. Brandon Jacobs looked like a beast.

on the flipside....could be a long year for KC...they did not look too good, especially on defense...
the biggest weakness i saw on offense was the line...they were awful. Kyle Turley looks like a shell of his former self.

and hate to say it redskin fans, haven't seen anything to feel warm an fuzzy about from the skins yet.....

but all still pre season....and we have all seen how that can work out come regular season...so no reason to jump off a bridge for any team....yet.

Now that the pre season is just about all done, and everyone has had 3-4 games played, i still don't know how all this plays out. the pre season is the pre season, and isn't a barometer for the regular season, i understand that, but from what i've seen thus far, i think i'm going to stick to my predictions.

i do think though that the Redskins and Chiefs have a bit of a longer way to go than originally thought. The Raiders are definitely bad. The bills are definitely bad.

the Giants have impressed, as have the Eagles. the Bucs, Jags look decent. Miami's D looks stout, and Chris chambers is awesome. The Panthers don't look like a run oriented team, and minus the front 7, the D backs don't look like a group on a top defensive team.

THe steelers have shown they can stop themselves with penalties, and Cowhers contract situation may prove to be a bigger distraction than anyone would admit. Not impressed with Deuce Staley yet.

No comment on the Bengals, stil haven't seen Palmer yet...and can they stay out of jail?

Patriots look good, Broncos look good, Dolphins looked good.

the cowboys are just shy of being a circus!!! and i love it.

the regular season should be interesting....

yeah, i saw that...your original stance about them being young is dead on, and it may be a few years, minus a big free agent or two in the next couple of years (don't know their cap situation?), before they are ready to contend...

I'm pretty sure I heard that they will be somewhere around 18 to 20 million under the cap going into the next off-season.

If the Raiders are that bad, which I agree with you on, what does that say about the 49ers and the Lions? The Raider 1st units dominated the starters for both those teams in the last two preseason games.

the lions and niners will both suck out loud again this year...neither worth mentioning...and the raiders aren't either, except that they have RAndy Moss...and signed Aaron Brooks....what a disaster. they're just getting older and worse as the seasons go along. and i'm ok with that...i don't like the raiders.

Actually, if you look across the board, the Raiders are getting younger on the O-Line and Defense. However, Aaron Brooks at QB is a perfect recipe for 5-11.

my avatar is not offended.

and you may be right....it wasn't like they tore thru the reg. season last year....but, if they stay healthy, they will be dangerous...i mean, they won't suck. they missing the playoffs, would likely have more to do with the improvements made in Baltimore and Cincy, rather than just the Steelers beign awful.
I have a hard time seeing the Steelers make the playoffs, too. They barely made it to the playoffs last season, and when they got in, they got more lucky breaks than any team in NFL history. Carson Palmer's leg injury, Mike Vanderjagt being an idiot, referee help in the Super Bowl, etc.

Also, losing Jerome Bettis might be an insurmountable loss. His departure is tough.

I also think it'll be a tough year for the Steelers.

Baltimore now has a serviceable QB, and Palmer looked excellent last night... even though it was against the Packers.

that's probably true...i just still have images of nearly 40 receivers, an old Warren Sapp, 40 year old Rich Gannon etc, etc, etc...they probably have gotten younger as some of those guys retire, leave etc...

but the brooks move just blew me away....old, young, doesn't matter when you make siginings like that. and lamont Jordan ain't the answer in the backfeild either.

5-11 is about right, but i could see it being worse. they play the AFC North and I think the NFC East? tough schedule.

don't worry, i noticed Palmer...he looked great. and that sucks.

the Steelers need to really find a running game (Deuce needs to be a hoss in the middle on short yardage and goal line) and the D is going to have to show up and provide better efforts than i have seen thus far, esp. pass defense.

And from what i've seen this pre season, their schedule looks a lot more imposing than it did when first released. opener against Miami, than @ Jax, Cincy, Bye (and this is truly what sucks...a bye in week 4??? are you kidding me?) @ SD, KC, @ ATL, @ OAK, DEN, NO, @ Clev, @ Balt, TB, CLE, @ Car, BALT, @ Cincy.

with that schedule, i see 10-6 or 9-7. and that may not get them in. we'll see...until then...:dance2: we're still world champs.

another sign the Raiders are loopy...they signed Jeff George.:eek:hmy:

Did the Steelers have any losses along the offensive line? If not, Parker should still be able to run wild you'd think.

#47

i don't think so...but not positive. Parker does bring something they haven't had in a while...outside speed. if he can do anything up the middle, the run game will be fine, but Deuce has to be able to spell him, and he hasn't played any real meaningful football in quite a while. which hopefully translates in to fresh legs to pound on defensive lines everywhere.

You know the Bengals had the Steelers (and Ravens) in mind when they signed Sam Adams to clog up the middle. That is one large man. Once they get Thurman back, I think the Bengals defense can be good enough for them to go back to the playoffs.

Completely disagree about Jordan. With competent QB play, he would be a 1,200-1,400 yard back.
