Nice win but the defense is still not good...

Frankly, what impressed me is the lack of turnovers (that one bonehead long throw by Worley under pressure) and a single penalty (and guess who will probably be running extra laps this week?). I also liked that when WKU tried to stack the line to squash the run, Worley was able to hit the screen passes and break it open.

Clearly some concerns there still but a LOT more discipline than we are used to seeing and I think that will result in some wins going forward.

Depth has a lot to do with the defense getting tired. If we don't have x number of bodies to put in to give the starters a breather, things will get worse during SEC play.

Depth may have something to do with it but after the first 2 TOs, how many 3 and outs did we have? Quite a few.

Petrino's teams will put up yards and points against a lot of teams and his playbook is ridiculous. He's adept at creating mismatches.
Our d has a ways to go, and that goes for the DC as well.
-Can't leave AJ alone on a slot receiver in man coverage
-can't make him play deep safety on a 3rd and 14 and have him meet the wr at the first down marker
-can't drop Miller into coverage against a slot on a 3rd down zone blitz

Legion of miserable..can't we just celebrate a win for a day before the armchair coaching critiques?

I guess some people think just cause we have a new coaching staff we overnight become National Championship contenders

We forced 7 turnovers and people are saying our D isn't good.... Seriously?!?! Guess we should try going back to last years defense.

Everyone whining all week on how WKU may beat us. We win 52-20 with 7 turnovers forced and fans still want to criticize the team. Makes me sick
This x1000

I can't believe what I've been reading on here today. 2/3 of the board was predicting a loss. We blow them out with defense which was non existant last year and most of what I've read today is criticism of our defense and our DBs need to play better. I wish these people would go root for another team.

Same players as last year, what do you expect? The defense did show more heart and tenacity and that's an improvement. Hopefully we'll get better as the season progresses. We do need more Moe's and Joe's to be an SEC caliber defense.

Our DBs made plays--got interceptions, so that is a positive for sure. Getting/creating turnovers is huge, though it is hard to say whether they were good plays by our guys or blockhead plays by their QB. The WK QB did throw 2 INTs in our end zone. But I also saw WKU get big chunks of yardage fairly consistently when they were not turning it over, and that is the concern. As some have noted, we need more talent on defense, especially LB and DE and maybe corner. Our LB corp. is weak.

Yesterday - "WKU is going to torch us"

After the game today - "Our defense sucks"

51-20 with 7 turnovers. I'll take it.

Time of possession was huge in the first half. Defense was on the field for 20 minutes. They got gassed and things broke down a little. A lot more concerned over the QB situation and the offense.

Agree, second half the O started to move the ball and the defense was able to limit WKU production to about 150 yards, I was very impressed with the second half effort.

Depth is my other concern but the guys on D did their job. Second half they kept the yardage down and the points minimal when the offense was having some sustained drives. IDK that we have the talent to be a contender now but we'll be a tough out for some really good teams.

Western Kentucky rang up 400 yards of offense, including 200 running the ball. Is that good defense? SEC QBs are not going to help us with 5 INTs.

393 to be exact but of that only 157 yards in the second half. Great adjustments and I think next week will be closer than many think.

When the defense takes the ball away deep in their end of the field or return interceptions for TDS, the offense can not be on the field very long.

WKU had a lot of possessions with the turnovers and quick scores. We are actually in position and lining up correctly. Good progress.

Our ends keep letting wku hook them and not playing good form and letting them get the edge. Gotta get that fixed before next week or it won't be pretty

Their QB wasn't just throwing interceptions for the hell of it; we were getting some decent pressure on him.
