Nichols committed to Memphis?

So it's appealing to walk down Beale street and see the SWAT team lined up? It seems to me the appealing part would be being able to walk down Beale street without needing the presence of a bunch of officers, no?

I'd feel a little sketch about a place if I'm walking around somewhere and theres police everywhere I look.

your opinion or insider info?

Don't get the Memphis hate coming from the boards. Losing a recruit brings the worst out of our fan base. I'm originally from the Antioch area of Nashville I would hold our crime rate up to Memphis all day. Memphis is a beautiful city with a rich history and I'm glad they are part of Tennessee.

Wish all the luck to Nichols and would of loved if he picked the vols.

You don't get out much do u.. SWAT team haha hope you were joking.. There's only few streets in America where you can walk with an open container and I guarantee ya there is a police presence on those streets...

Drinking Made Easy – Where Can You Drink on the Streets in the US?

Yes the SWAT team comment was a joke...with that said, spent quite a bit of time in new orleans...there's a police presence somewhat at night, but not during the day on Bourbon St....at least not one i noticed.

Wasn't hating at all...just thought it was funny saying how appealing a street was an citing police presence as a big reason, that's all.

The police presence at night on Beale is comparable to what you'll find on Bourbon, and it's necessary in both instances.

Crime rate maps were released recently detailing which precincts of the city saw the most crime. East Memphis, where the University is, predictably were some of the lowest crime rates. However, the one of the absolute lowest in the city was the downtown precinct. The City knows where its bread is buttered: by tourist dollars. Downtown is safe as can be.

As Canes stated the police are there more predominantly at night, like the other cities. I work for the fire dept we mostly pick up drunks and such, haven't made a shooting or a killing in this district. 3-4 blocks south that's a different story.. But like Canes said downtown for the most part is pretty safe.

Beale Street does in one week the amount of business that the bustling metropolis of Vonore, TN does in a year.

The only people that are afraid to go to Beale street are the people that have been building their secret bunkers for the impending race wars.

Look, I grew up here and raise a family here. But, Beale Street is not the same as it was even 6-8 years ago. Maybe I haven't been in a while because I have other priorities, but there is a reason why I know about the things happening.

I am not afraid to go there, but the question now is do I want to go there? Just sayin.

I agree that Downtown is safe, certainly compared to the rest of the city. Very much enjoy downtown. But, there have been an increase in incidents on and around Beale Street in the last few years. Club 152 has had several, and I know. But, the overall atmosphere has changed and not just crime.

I am just saying that unless I go to the Forum, I am less likely to go now than I did about 5-10 years ago.

Well, me too, but that's because I'm 30 and not 20 anymore. When I was that age though, I was at Alfred's every saturday because there was no better place in the city.

The older crowd who live in Memphis don't go to Beale street all that much, and that's ok, it's not for them. It's for the young kids and tourists. It's still fun as hell to go every once in a while, though.
