I went in 1997 during the Green era. It was a dual one with the Lady Vols an was nationally televised by ESPN. Attendance was good from what I remember

So bad team + bad coordinator/promoter....never good result.

Personally I think if done right it could be big here, and a nice recruiting tool.

Didn't mean I was against it.....I'm all for it if we do it right and we can motivate our lazy fan base to attend.

"Hey Austin, wanna come to Memphis Madness? We'll have a lot of recruits your age there, maybe some celebrities, you get to see some top NCAA players do cool things, be a part of a really cool enviroment, and can hang out with a bunch of different people afterwords later in the night on a weekend."

Um, what 18 year old kid says no?

Don't know if Auburn is a serious player for him, but he cancelled his visit to Auburn to go to this event. I think it's all good.

Plus hang out with NBA players (usually some Grizz players are there).

In all honesty if he'd have said no the city would've freaked on him probably. He's going to try and make Memphis feel as in play as possible, in hopes the city doesn't completely burn down when he comes here.

How long ago was it tried here?

Fwiw, Quinn said he's planning on asking Martin about this soon, so maybe well get an answer.

With such a big arena its hard to pack 22k for any midnight madness, and you dont want it looking empty. Maybe put up the curtains for it, what does that make it, about 15k?

I know it was attempted a couple times in the Green era, and I'm pretty sure Bruce and Pat did a joint effort in his second or third season. Not sure though.

No he didn't. He delayed his visit a day, instead of being there 48 hours he'll be there 24 hours.

Got that off another board. I still think it's down to UT and Duke. So many are saying he's a UT lock, and I hope he is, but I won't feel comfortable until he commits to us. Then get the papers signed during the early signing period. Never feel totally comfortable until the ink has dried.

I definitely don't remember it during Bruce's tenure if he did, I thought I remember him actually being opposed to it iirc

And I don't blame that one bit.

You guys dont a midnight madness? That's insane. We sell our tickets for cheap so it should be no problem for you guys to sell out. I also think students get in free or a discount.

I seem to remember going in 2000. May have been 1999 but was around that time.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'm thinking was Vincent Yarbrough's freshman year, when was that?

Not many people not named Kentucky would sell 22k tix for midnight madness.

people in memphis go to this. theyre normally boring unless you like yo gotti. then that parts pretty cool. as far as us having one in knox, id rather not. football schools dont normally do these as well. if we were duke, unc, kansas, kentucky, etc. thats a different story. not trying to be a downer, but these arent as awesome as people like to think. id rather have a recruit come to a game in neyland

That is not good, but not surprising. Tigers are building a recruiting class of epic proportions. Then it could be another courtesy call by Nichols.

Don't be overly impressed with Memphis. I go to some games....:recruiting Is Not there problem....few schools have close to the talent Memphis has....THIS IS A CRUCIAL Year for Pastner....granted he had a key injury last year but at some point Josh MUST produce.....by the way Austin is going to UT!
